We are saying goodbye to #ClimateWeekNYC after what has been an energizing and productive week of discussions. It has been a clear reminder of the vital role we play both in terms of the industry as well as society as whole – and it is a role we take seriously – to take action against climate change through innovative collaboration. Some of our highlights included: ➡️ Participating in the UN Summit of the Future Action days focused on partnership and action on how digital technologies and game-changing solutions can lay the groundwork for a more sustainable, inclusive, and responsible future. ➡️ Several of roundtables with high-level public officials and corporate executive officers, and finance leaders to discuss how trilateral collaboration in deployment can overcome the hurdles and concrete opportunities to scale decarbonization. ➡️ Joining Net Zero Tracker to discuss how we move from setting targets to meeting them and hearing from great examples of leadership from around the world. ➡️ Showcasing to influential players from different industries how we have been pioneering partnership across our own supply chains to accelerate sustainable products – with Goals House. ➡️ Participating in an event with The New York Times to discuss AI’s role in sustainability efforts. But climate action does not end here. We will continue to break down barriers and foster the collaboration needed to act right and act fast.

The global steel industry accounts for some 8% of CO2 emissions worldwide. And since we need steel to produce our trucks, machines, buses and equipment are leading the way by incorporating fossil-free steel in our products.

Recently we welcomed 80 female students to an exclusive evening at Volvo’s Technology headquarters to explore the great world of engineering, together with Chalmers Women's Association (CWA). We shared experiences, discussed future technology areas, and important topics such as diversity, and inclusion. We’re at #ClimateWeekNYC, together with partners and industry colleagues from around the world, to participate in important discussions and share our vision of a road to #netzero. Because the time to act is now. “Climate Week NYC gives us an opportunity to show the world our emission-free solutions for transport and construction equipment. What we want to see now is policymaker support to speed up the adoption of these solutions by promoting the use of zero-emission trucks and construction equipment in our cities and towns”, says our Chief Sustainability Officer, Karin Svensson. The first Climate Week NYC took place in 2009. The summit is held alongside the United Nations General Assembly, allowing heads of state and other senior governmental figures to attend and participate.

It's been a busy week at IAA TRANSPORTATION. Here’s just a few of the news highlights: ➡️ Volvo Trucks announced the increased use of low CO2 emission steel. This steel, produced with recycled material and fossil-free energy, will be used in tens of thousands of Volvo Trucks starting next year. ➡️ Our joint venture with Westport Fuel Systems made its debut under the new name Cespira! ➡️ Milence - our joint venture with Daimler Truck and TRATON GROUP - unveiled the largest public charging network for heavy trucks in Europe. ➡️ cellcentric GmbH & Co. KG – our joint venture with Daimler Truck – presented a virtual 3D model of the NextGen fuel cell system. All in all, a great week in Hannover with many exciting and promising things to look forward to.

Announcing Cespira, the new home of HPDI™ fuel system technology. “The launch of Cespira manifests our joint venture with Westport Fuel Systems. The HPDI technology, High Pressure Direct Injection, is important for decarbonization, offering immediate reductions in greenhouse gas emissions while utilizing existing internal combustion engines. This can be achieved today with biogas and natural gas, and we foresee exciting possibilities with hydrogen. With Cespira, we are well-positioned to continue leading the industry toward a more sustainable future and we look forward to seeing other OEMs explore this technology,” says our CTO Lars Stenqvist.
