Great news for road safety: today Volvo Trucks introduces the next generation of safety systems to protect pedestrians and cyclists. Volvo’s Active Side Collision Avoidance Support uses radar sensors to detect approaching cyclists. The system can warn the driver and, if necessary, now also actively brake the truck to avoid a collision with cyclists when the truck is turned to the passenger side. The second system is Volvo Trucks’ next-generation Collision Warning with Emergency Brake. This system was first introduced in 2012 and has been continuously improved since then. With the latest improvements, the system can detect, warn and brake not only for other vehicles, but also for pedestrians and cyclists.

“It was one of the best things I did in my life," says Jean-Michel Excler, Quality Project Manager at Volvo Group in Lyon, when reflecting on his recent experience as a volunteer at the Paralympics in Paris. Jean Michel was part of the protocol team at Charles de Gaulle Airport, welcoming VIPs, including ministers, IOC officials, and athletes. "I was the first face they saw when arriving in France," he says. The opportunity to welcome people from all over the world was something he really treasured. And beyond the excitement of the games and the satisfaction of a job well done, Jean Michel appreciates the friendships he built with volunteers from around the world. “There were 43 nationalities represented in our team at the airport. It was incredible to see how we all came together, united by one purpose. It was three weeks of offering joy and happiness to our guests and to the world.” As Jean Michel now prepares for retirement, he encourages others to get involved in volunteering, whether at the Olympics or closer to home. "Volunteering brings people together in a way that nothing else can. It teaches you to step outside of yourself and embrace the joy of helping others. I think everyone should try it."

Ground control to… smart people everywhere: This week we have a challenge for you. Is this control system stable? Analyze the stability of the following transfer function for a control system G(s). This challenge might be a bit easy for some of you, but then you’ll have more time to lock down that Nobel Prize in physics (or drink coffee). Stay sharp with Mind Mechanics 🧠
