We ushered in Chinese New Year with tradition, beginning with the vibrant lion dance, a centuries-old symbol of strength and good fortune, followed by the lively Luo Hei with Yu Sheng, wishing for blessings and prosperity in the year ahead.   Staying true to CNY festivities, we brought out a deck of cards, but with a twist. Led by Balazs Fogoly, we explored decision-making through poker. Drawing from his expertise in people and performance management in the banking sector, Balazs guided us through a masterclass where we tackled concepts like risk appetite, procrastination, outmanoeuvring competitors by raising the stakes, and managing biases. It was a refreshing perspective to see poker as a strategy game.    As we slithered into the Year of the Snake, it’s safe to say some were absolutely smooth at the poker table. We saw some incredible costumes, from rock stars to disco legends – a true testament to the team's creativity and spirit.   But the real highlight? Recognising our amazing people! Heartwork Amplified    When we come together, we amplify our efforts and unlock the potential for meaningful social impact. With a commitment to building relationships and fostering collaboration and in support of Great Singapore Give, 8M partnered with our tenant, Talos Singapore, to organise a tour for seniors from local aging centres within the communities we serve.   The day began with both volunteers and seniors arriving at the National Museum of Singapore in high spirits, eager for a journey through the Singapore History Gallery. As we guided the seniors through the exhibits, we were privileged to listen to their personal stories and memories. One gentleman shared the sentimental story of an opium pipe he owned, which once belonged to his late father and resembled one displayed in the museum. Meanwhile, the ladies delighted in posing for photos with a life-sized cutout of Singapore’s founding father, Lee Kuan Yew.   Following the tour, the seniors enjoyed a catered lunch from Cafe Brera (https://lnkd.in/g2GiAmc4), a socially responsible F&B partner. The atmosphere remained festive with caricature drawings, games, and thoughtful gifts, bringing smiles and joy to all.   As the year draws to a close, we reflect with gratitude on surpassing 100 hours of volunteer work. In June, OH! Open House (https://lnkd.in/g4gbcQs2) made use of the stunning rooftop space at Ann Siang House, hosting an evening filled with food, drinks, and meaningful connections with volunteers for their project, Marking Matters.   Marking Matters (https://lnkd.in/gwSF99MK) features Thai artist Mit Jai Inn and his 32 striking papier-mâché sculptures, designed to encourage deeper contemplation of art's role in our cultural fabric. Mit ingeniously invited participants to donate their time to a charity in exchange for the opportunity to acquire one of his artworks, fostering community engagement and philanthropy in a truly unique way.   As the project came to a close last weekend, the team gathered once again at Ann Siang House to share their causes, journeys, and experiences. The session concluded with volunteers receiving their art pieces from Mit, followed by an intimate after-party hosted by OH! to express gratitude to all involved.    Ann Siang House is one of over 72 shophouses owned by 8M. By sponsoring the venue for this initiative, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering positive impact within our communities through partnerships and collaboration. To celebrate World Mental Health Day on 10 October, the 8M team kicked off the day on a warm note. The Grobrix team joined us for a delightful herbal tea workshop featuring fresh herbs from our vertical farm. We explored several fantastic recipes and got hands-on, steeping our own soothing cups of tea with add-ins like lemon and ginger. Breakfast was served, showcasing fresh produce and brain-nourishing foods to fuel our minds and bodies.   Later in the day, the team headed to a Pickleball clinic. Engaging in physical activity does wonders for mental health, making it a perfect complement to our morning activities. At 8M, we’ve always been dedicated to empowering youths and supporting local artists as part of community engagement, and we’re excited to share our latest collaboration with Club Rainbow (Singapore). Club Rainbow provides vital support to children with chronic illnesses and their families, many of whom are aspiring artists with remarkable portfolios. We saw a wonderful opportunity to showcase their creativity through a mural in our office, designed in partnership with our long-time mural artist, Ripple Root.   The mural embodies our core values - Bold, Entrepreneurial, Excellence, and Social, while incorporating the children’s unique interpretations and artwork. At 8M, we are dedicated to fostering a culture of empathy, ethical practices, and active community engagement.   Today, we’re excited to highlight Nazima Huque, our Senior Manager, Corporate Affairs & Communications.
