ACE’s Consumer Engagement and Education (CEE) team had the privilege to attend the SG Ostomy Awareness Day 2024, jointly organised by the Ostomy Association of Singapore (OAS) and Singapore General Hospital (SGH) on 12 October 2024. The event featured excellent volunteer performances, and healthcare professionals delivered insightful presentations on using #stomas to manage #colorectal conditions and addressing stoma-related complications. Inspiring stories were also shared by patients and carers, highlighting their experiences of living with or caring for someone with a stoma. We appreciated the opportunity to participate in SG Ostomy Awareness Day 2024 and would like to congratulate Ellil Mathiyan Lakshmanan and the OAS and SGH teams on the successful event. We look forward to future collaborations to further improve healthcare in Singapore. Find out more about CEE’s activities from our CEE updates: https://go.gov.sg/aceli269

Meet Mr Jessie James Gonzales, a customer service professional in his thirties, who has experienced improvements in his health with subsidised treatment for relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS). RRMS is a form of multiple sclerosis characterised by episodes of attacks (relapses). Symptoms can include fatigue, slurred speech, numbness or tingling, blurred vision, problems with movement, bladder control, thinking, concentration and memory. This can be followed by periods of partial or complete recovery (remission). After experiencing frequent relapses and worsening symptoms that affected his mobility and daily activities, Jessie was prescribed fingolimod, a disease-modifying therapy for RRMS. Through ACE’s evaluation, fingolimod has been recommended by the Drug Advisory Committee for inclusion on the Medication Assistance Fund (MAF) for treating adults and children with RRMS. The subsidy significantly reduced Jessie’s out-of-pocket expenses, allowing him to manage his condition without an overwhelming financial burden.
