  • 💻 #ICYMI AmChamSG recently hosted a virtual webinar on “Navigating the Cyber Storm: Emerging Threats in an AI Era.” 🎤 The panel featured Isaraporn Kulkumjon, Regional Solutions Architect at Fortinet; James Fong, Risk, Security & ESG Solutions Leader, Asia at ServiceNow; Anshuman Sharma, Director, Verizon Threat Research Advisory Service, APJ at Verizon; and moderator Eva Kwok, Head of Cybersecurity in Hong Kong & Senior Managing Director at FTI Consulting. 🎤 The discussion highlighted Artificial intelligence (AI)I as a double-edged sword in cybersecurity, serving acting as both a powerful weapon for attackers and a valuable tool for defenders. As With AI becoming increasingly integrated into our daily life, the threat landscape is expanding rapidly. As the panel explored the implications of this dynamic environment and how organizations can effectively protect themselves while undergoing amid AI transformations. Key takeaways from the session included: 💭 AI Systems Are Increasingly Vulnerable to Attacks: As AI becomes more pervasive, securing and ensuring the integrity of AI models and data is critical. Adversaries can exploit vulnerabilities by poisoning data streams and training datasets, crafting deceptive inputs to mislead AI engines, and reverse-engineering model architectures. 💭 AI as a Weapon for Cybercriminals: Attackers can leverage AI across the cyber kill chain, from identifying targets through sophisticated reconnaissance to establishing persistent command and control. AI automates the creation of highly personalized phishing emails, fake social media profiles, and malicious code. AI-generated malware can evolve and adapt to defense mechanisms, evading traditional security measures. 💭 Fighting AI with AI: AI enhances behavior-based detection and threat intelligence by automating information gathering and pattern recognition. Integrating AI into Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) and Network Detection and Response (NDR) systems enables proactive defense against evolving threats. Natural language processing capabilities further enhance threat intelligence by extracting valuable information from textual data. Automating routine tasks with AI accelerates investigations, allowing security teams to focus on strategic threat mitigation. 💭 Human and AI Cooperation: While AI excels at processing vast amounts of data and automating routine work, while humans provide essential contextual understanding and critical decision-making. Continuous human oversight will enable organizations to create a robust and adaptable security posture. We thank our panel of experts for sharing their insights with us and our attendees for their participation. #cybersecurity #threats #artificialintelligence #AmChamREPRESENT #AmChamSGplus

  • #ICYMI AmChamSG hosted Mr. Damian Chan, CEO of Singapore Food Agency (SFA) for a City Hall Dialogue, moderated by Kimberly Lai, Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability Manager, SG, Coca-Cola Beverages Singapore, Malaysia & Brunei. Mr. Chan, who took on the role on May 1, 2024, shared insights into SFA's role, priorities, and strategies in ensuring food safety and security in SG, including: 💡Singapore's Close Partnership with the U.S.: Mr. Chan reaffirmed the important roles of U.S. food and agriculture companies in diversifying Singapore’s import sources. In addition to being a key source of beef and chicken, he highlighted the recent upgrading of the U.S. to prelisting status for eggs. By recognizing establishments recommended by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service, U.S. egg exporters entering Singapore face a simplified and streamlined regulatory process. 💡Collaboration on Innovation and R&D: Companies were encouraged to partner with SFA on innovation and R&D efforts to enhance Singapore's food production capabilities, improve resource efficiency, and ultimately contribute to the nation's food security and safety goals. He outlined several areas of collaboration that SFA is keen to explore, including the novel foods regulatory framework, innovations in critical input factors like seeds and fish eggs, and collaborations to overcome challenges faced by local farms, including energy efficiency issues in indoor vertical farming. 💡Regulatory Approach and Novel Foods: Mr. Chan highlighted Singapore's pioneering role in regulating novel foods, such as being the first country in the world to approve cultivated meat. He noted that the insect industry is nascent, and SFA had developed a science-based insect regulatory framework, that puts in place guidelines for insects and similar creatures to be approved as food and animal feed. Mr. Chan emphasized that while SFA is open to facilitate industry’s interest in new areas such as innovative food sources, SFA’s role is to ensure the safety of food in Singapore, which is a key consideration for new areas like these. 💡Regional Leadership and Capacity Building: SFA positions itself in the regional food ecosystem as a regulatory leader, aiming to develop robust regulatory capabilities and increase awareness in international forums, with a particular focus on greater alignment on food safety science. Mr. Chan shared that SFA engages in capacity building across food agencies in the region. For instance, the National Centre for Food Science (NCFS), the scientific arm of SFA, also plays a regional and international role, including the ASEAN Food Reference Laboratory in multiple food safety analysis, including Pesticide Residues, Environmental Contaminants, Mycotoxins, Marine Biotoxins and Scombrotoxins. We thank Series Sponsor Johnson & Johnson and Event Sponsor Kellanova for supporting this event. #singapore #food #dialogue #AmChamREPRESENT #AmChamSGplus
