Today, Aleph Farms is proud to announce that Ministry of Health Israel has issued regulatory approval for Aleph Cuts, the world’s first cultivated beef steaks. The approval was delivered in the form of a “No Questions” letter, in which Israel’s Ministry of Health confirms its acceptance of Aleph Farms’ conclusion that Aleph Cuts are safe to eat. The approval grants us permission to produce and market our product in Israel, subject to specific directions for labeling and marketing provided by Israel’s Ministry of Health, and the completion of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) inspection for our pilot production facility. Once these requirements are fulfilled, we will introduce Aleph Cuts to diners, offering exclusive tasting experiences curated in collaboration with select partners. Amidst truly challenging times in Israel and around the world, we do not approach this moment with exuberance. Instead, we reflect on the profound dedication and the unwavering commitment of our team members, partners, investors and supporters who embarked on our journey to make the world a better place. 🌱 Promising new project: Protecting trees by fighting the cocoa swollen shoot virus disease We're proud to support a groundbreaking project of our member SwissDeCode to protect cocoa trees and rainforests. The project “Prevent the spreading of the cocoa swollen shoot disease: Rapid detection tool for cocoa trees in Ghana” is co-financed by SECO Wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung, SwissDeCode, Mars; Mondelēz International, Storck 🔍 Why is this project crucial? The swollen shoot virus disease has plagued cocoa trees in West Africa for decades. The disease can cause up to a 70% reduction in cocoa yield. The virus often lurks silently in asymptomatic trees, making early detection essential. 🌟 What's innovative? SwissDeCode, together with Mars, has developed the so-called DNAFoil CSSVD test – a rapid, easy-to-use tool for in-field detection of the virus in asymptomatic🌿 leaves. It provides results in under an hour and is more cost-effective and accurate than alternatives like PCR. 🌱 Protecting rainforests With the test, farmers can detect infected trees even before symptoms appear. The farmers can act quickly, remove the infected trees from the plantation and thereby protect their healthy trees and thus safeguard their income. The test can also help prevent large-scale deforestation. When their trees are infected with the virus, farmers often clear forests to plant new cocoa trees. The sustainable alternative is cutting the sick trees and replanting the parcel with new seedlings after two years. 🌍 What is the projects’ social impact? Ghana is one of the hardest-hit countries, and we're dedicated to bringing this innovation to help protect cocoa farmers' livelihoods. Thanks to a rollout of the test kit that includes female farmers and specific targeting and training of female household heads, the test has also the potential to reduce poverty and gender inequality. 🙍♀️ Sanja Fabrio, Director of Business Development of SwissDeCode, comments: «Collaboration in innovation is the best way to deliver new solutions to those who need them most.
