#DidYouKnow that JTC’s role as the Public Sector Centre of Excellence (CentEx) includes Facilities Management (FM), along with Building and Infrastructure and Sustainability? This month, we exchanged ideas with fellow industry experts on leveraging technology and driving lasting transformation at the Defence Engineering and Logistics Seminar 2024 and National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) Built Environment Masterclass on Integrated FM solutions: 1. As with successful adoption of any technology, it is crucial to understand the FM ecosystem, including stakeholders, workflows, and processes prior to implementation. Ensuring that technology aligns with operational needs will ensure effectiveness. 2. Adopting smart FM procurement strategies can transform relationships with service providers. By focusing on collaboration and mutual benefit, organisations can achieve greater value for money and ensure strategic outcomes are met, leading to more sustainable FM practices. 3. Choosing ‘fit-for-purpose’ technology will not only enhance operational efficiency but also drive successful and sustainable transformation. Utilising frameworks such as the SMART FM guide can help organisations align technology solutions with their operational goals, ensuring compatibility and improving overall efficiency. 4. Sharing insights and best practices, along with participation in dedicated upskilling programs are essential to drive lasting change. As the landscape evolves, investing in workforce development ensures that FM professionals are equipped to meet emerging challenges and drive future success. Congratulations to Matwerkz Technologies, #Stemden and SONIRE Therapeutics Inc., who have emerged as #SLINGSHOT2024’s top 3 winners, after months of preparation and rounds of intense pitching at the Singapore Week of Innovation and Technology (SWITCH)! They win up to 18 months of rent-free space at LaunchPad @ one-north. JTC is also a supporter of Stage One – a one-stop centre by Enterprise Singapore and Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) to help startups scale from Singapore. By connecting local and international tech startups through green lane arrangements to facilitate the setup of Stage One’s startups at #LaunchPad, the new initiative hopes to drive further opportunities for collaboration between startups, corporations and innovation partners. Stage One is set to launch in 1Q2025. We look forward to working with our partners to build a vibrant startup ecosystem by helping global startups and driving the exchange of ideas and talent among the local startup community. #BuildingIndustries ACE.SG (Action Community for Entrepreneurship) Christine Wong Chuan Teck Lee SLINGSHOT and Physical Immersion Programme photos: EnterpriseSG

At the TechInnovation panel on Sustainable Innovations for Smart Cities of the Future, our Assistant CEO Calvin Chung discussed all things green – how companies can engage with the Singapore Green Building Masterplan, opportunities for innovation in our built environment, and practical approaches to achieving #sustainability goals: - To meet 80-80-80 targets, JTC aims to achieve Green Mark Platinum Super Low Energy (SLE) standards across our new buildings and existing buildings undergoing major retrofits where feasible. - While many solutions focus on SLE standards, companies can also address embodied carbon beyond operational carbon reduction. JTC, Building and Construction Authority and Singapore Green Building Council have launched the Singapore Building Carbon Calculator, Singapore's first localised web-based embodied carbon calculator, which allows users to calculate the amount of carbon savings they could obtain when they use low-carbon materials during construction. - When smart solutions are integrated into a building’s ecosystem, it ensures long-tail sustainability. The Open Digital Platform at Punggol Digital District exemplifies this, integrating facility and management systems to monitor use and communicate with various district systems – including Smart Grid, District Cooling System, and Building Management System – pushing the boundaries of energy efficiency and savings. - To further support #innovation in sustainability, JTC and Enterprise Singapore launched the Decarbonisation Living Lab @ JID Innovation Call. This S$4 million initiative brings together Jurong Innovation District (JID) stakeholders to co-develop and implement solutions for reducing carbon emissions, energy and water consumption, and waste in the district. Join us in creating a greener future for Singapore's built environment! #BuildingIndustries #TechInnovation2024 IPI City Developments Limited Gush RISC

To support aerospace companies’ journey in productivity and sustainability, we and Enterprise Singapore launched the Aerospace Open Innovation Challenge (AOIC) during Singapore Airshow 2024 with support from Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) and Association of Aerospace Industries (Singapore), aimed at crowdsourcing solutions for global aerospace challenges. 140 submissions from 29 countries to answer 12 challenge statements later, we have identified 8 successful matches. Last week, the AOIC Demo Day was held at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Asia at #SeletarAerospacePark to showcase the 8 innovative solutions. Some areas of discussion included: - Recovering and optimising waste heat from operations to enhance energy efficiency - Designing, constructing and deployment of mobile solar photovoltaic solutions to optimise available land areas for renewable energy generation - Automated solutions to enhance operations such as loading/ unloading cargo and sanding on contoured surfaces We look forward to continuing working with our partners in the development phase and exploring potential areas of #collaboration for other aerospace companies. Stay tuned! A*STAR - Agency for Science, Technology and Research Yvonne Lim Wee Lee, LIM Airbus GE Aerospace Jet Aviation RTX Singapore Component Solutions ST Engineering

Advario, JTC, and VFlowTech have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore scaling up Vanadium Redox Flow Battery (VRFB) technology on Jurong Island. This collaboration marks a significant step towards a low-carbon energy future for Singapore as #JurongIsland transforms into a sustainable energy and chemicals park. Through this MOU, VFlowTech will leverage Advario's tank infrastructure to scale the VRFB technology to 40MWh—sufficient to power over 3,000 4-room Singaporean public housing flats daily. This project is a direct outcome of the Jurong Island Renewable Energy Request-for-Proposal launched by the Energy Market Authority (EMA) and JTC in 2021. This #collaboration exemplifies the robust public-private partnerships that are propelling #innovation and facilitating the energy transition in Singapore. Jurong Island serves as a living testbed for clean energy solutions, and we are committed to advancing cutting-edge energy storage technologies that contribute to a more sustainable and resilient energy landscape.
