Oral health - not something to be brushed off. With almost 50% of children in Singapore experiencing tooth decay by the age of 6, a new National University Centre for Oral Health, Singapore (NUCOHS) programme aims to foster a positive association with dental visits among young children and help them feel at ease with the dentist as a trusted figure by engaging with parents and children. "This new programme will help children become accustomed to the dentist’s office and the dental chair. When they start to associate the dentist’s office with a positive experience, it can reduce anxiety the next time they visit a dentist." said Dr Sim Chien Joo, Head, Division of Paediatric Dentistry, NUCOHS. Learning on, and for the job. Just last week, ITE launched the Work-Study Diploma (WSDip) in Nursing, in an aim to attract more talents to the healthcare sector. Comprising of about 30% on-campus learning and 70% on-the-job training, enrolled nurses (EN) who graduate from the programme can practice as registered nurses. NUHS has the highest no. of ENs who took up this diploma in this pioneering cohort. "The 3-year WSDip in nursing is particularly useful for in-service nurses to provide them with the skills and knowledge necessary to advance in their careers and meet the evolving needs of the healthcare sector without disrupting their income and work." said Health Minister, Mr Ong Ye Kung. We are dedicated to supporting our nurses to their full potential! #OneNUHS #FutureOfNursing
