LINA European Architecture Platform

After Ljubljana and Copenhagen, it was Sarajevo’s turn to host the LINA fellows and LINA members who will co-create a series of activities throughout the year as part of the LINA Architecture Programme. For the third year running, excited connections talking publication pitches, exhibition proposals, film workshops, intervention design and other mediums communicating a more sustainable approach to architecture took place at the 2024 LINA Conference: Community-Led Architecture. A huge thanks to our co-organisers at Days of Architecture / Dani arhitekture (Irhana Šehović and Dunja Krvavac), who welcomed us to the city and presented their experience of growing up and being an architect in Sarajevo. Our sincere thanks also go to Léopold Lambert for delivering the State of Architecture address, as well as Jadd Hallaj (Bolwerk), Ana Dana Beroš (DAI SAI - Društvo arhitekata Istre) and Federica Sofia Zambeletti (KoozArch) who moderated panel discussions. Most of all: we're grateful to our member organisations and to LINA fellows for joining us in Sarajevo and creating a truly magical two days! The LINA platform is co-funded by the EU. United around shared values and goals, cities all over the world have flourished when communities, rather than governments or corporations, have taken the lead in developing the city. 2024 LINA Conference: Community-Led Architecture highlights the importance of the role of communities in the development of the city and their contribution to the promotion of architectural innovation. Featuring 25 LINA fellows, Léopold Lambert, Meriem Chabani, Irhana Šehović and Dunja Krvavac, this year's LINA Conference will take place in Sarajevo. Taking the lead from this resilient city, LINA will look for ways communities can create change. Join us in Sarajevo on 3 October 2024!

LINA members Architecture at the Edge and Copenhagen Architecture Festival - CAFx are teaming up with 2022 LINA fellows Lemonot and Sofie Stilling (Royal Danish Academy) for a film + architecture workshop. It will take place from 28 Sept to 5 Oct and will respond to the thematic provocation of the upcoming AATE24: "Islands", and will explore Galway's Public Archipelago. We believe that belonging is not an abstract concept, but something to be cultivated through inhabiting and experiencing. Participants will be introduced to practices of investigative observation, research, and new ways of mapping and understanding the city and apply this knowledge to create your own short film.

The LINA platform is honoured and excited to announce the 2024 featured LINA fellows. We welcome all 25 teams and individuals into the community and are looking forward to the collaboration! The 2024 LINA Open Call sought to find emerging spatial practitioners, thinkers, and creatives to become LINA fellows. Last May we went down to a cozy timber pavillon at the Belgrade School of Arts to present our design research "Decoding the Void"!! ☀️ Six months ago, BINA (The Belgrade International Architectural Week) invited us to take part in a research, asking to express our perspectives on the future of three modernist blocks in New Belgrade. Last May, together with five other emerging architects, we presented our results at the opening of the exhibition "Understanding City Growth" at the Belgrade School of Arts. Our research "Decoding the Void: Anatomy of Urban Residualities in Blocks 61, 62 & 63" focused on analysing the numerous neglected, underused and abandoned public spaces in the area and their relationship to the uncontrolled urban growth of the last 25 years. Through mapping, qualitative and quantitative analysis, on-site interviews and historical research, we tried to illustrate how recent uncoherent developments have produced unusable and low-quality public spaces, and causing the loss of more then 40 000 sqm of greenery. The research concludes with a vision centred around the introduction of a large natural park that supports slow mobility and mitigates the microclimate, while pushing car infrastructure and potential densification to the perimeter, giving back valuable public space to the city. 🌱 It was good to see how all six proposals stimulated discussion between the local groups and we hope the contribution can assist the ongoing discussion on whether or not the Blocks should be further densified and, if so, how. To take part, apply to the LINA Open Call with your previous work or pitch us an idea. This means you can apply with an example of an existing text - published or not - or examples of praxis that give us an insight into your way of thinking. When applying, select 2 activities that you’re most interested in participating in (or by organisations you’d most like to collaborate with). This way, they’ll pay extra attention to your application, making for the best matchmaking outcome. And don’t forget: you don’t need to be selected among the 25 featured LINA fellows to participate in collaborations! Last call: LINA Open Call invites emerging creatives to apply with ideas, texts and practices addressing the environmental crisis The European platform LINA European Architecture Platform  is a network connecting relevant institutions with emerging practitioners and thinkers who work at the intersection of architecture and other fields related to spatial culture: it aims to promote up-and-coming talent. LINA’s goal is to steer design and building processes towards regenerative practices and principles of de-growth in line with the values of the European #GreenDeal. Each year, the LINA platform, supported under Creative Europe, holds an Open Call to find up-and-coming talent. The call seeks emerging spatial practitioners, thinkers, and creatives to become LINA fellows. Individuals and teams are invited to apply with radical ideas, practical solutions, theoretical insights or thought-provoking practices addressing the environmental crisis. We're thrilled to announce a series of contributions created in collaboration between University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Architecture and e-Flux, Inc. titled Framing Renovation. Part of the 2023-24 LINA Architecture Programme, it features contributions by Merve Bedir; Ana Dana Beros and Mika Savela; Arno Brandlhuber, Ludwig Engel, Olaf Grawert, and Alina Kolar; Rocio Calzado Lopez; Future Foodscapes Research Unit; Nicole Kalms; Mo Michelsen Stochholm Krag; Alessandro Petti and Sandi Hilal; Robida Collective; and Katrina Wiberg. The 10 contributions that are to be published in the coming weeks include 3 authored by LINA fellows, emerging creatives selected at our annual open call (which, incidentally, is currently open till 13 May).
