#Affordable #Housing - Addressing the #Housing Crisis in the Union Conference' in the European Parliament
Yesterday, a conference co-organised by the European Commission and the European Parliament focused on the ongoing #housing crisis and explored potential EU-level solutions.
MEPs, Commission representatives, and other EU institutions had the opportunity to hear from national and regional authorities, as well as stakeholders, about the efforts underway in EU countries to improve access to affordable housing.
On this occasion, Commissioner Dan Jørgensen said: "And we are here because we need to deliver more decent #housing. It is not just about increasing the quantity of Europe's housing stock; it is also about quality. We need to invest in decent, accessible and durable houses, well connected to local infrastructure – for health and education, services and resources – which provide the building blocks of communities, and the foundations of our societies. We can draw inspiration from the #NewEuropeanBauhaus, which promotes buildings that are #sustainable, #inclusive and enriching for their local environment ».
ACE President, Ruth Schagemann, contributed to the discussion, emphasising that the key to increasing #affordable #housing in Europe lies in fostering innovation, quality, and collaboration. Quality, in this context, means ensuring decent, comfortable, and sustainable living conditions, while also prioritizing accessibility and affordability.
