Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The Christian housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through #HabitatVoicesInAction, we seek to reshape policies and practices at all levels of government to increase access to affordable homes. Earlier this month, we spoke with federal representatives at #HabitatontheHill, and just this week, in New York and Texas, Habitat-led delegations met with their state-level legislators. In Ukraine, providing rapid solutions for displaced families and repair initiatives that make partially damaged structures habitable have been impactful short-term actions. With an eye toward the future, and using our experience in affordable housing, post-war reconstruction and housing finance as a guide, Habitat for Humanity has outlined our strategic role in the country's housing recovery for the next five years. Included in this plan is our choice to be a partner-led organization. Partners in building for over three decades, our collaboration with Wells Fargo reached new heights in 2024. In addition to the donation of $6.3 million, 1,898 volunteers from Wells Fargo donned hard hats and picked up hammers, working side-by-side with homeowners across the U.S. to turn the dream of safe, affordable housing into reality. Overall, Wells Fargo helped Habitat build or repair 303 homes in 2024.

Through support of a Global Village team of volunteers, Habitat for Humanity Fiji constructed three homes that are built to be resilient, practical and safe. Each home is equipped with plumbing systems that will make the homes improve the homeowner family’s standard of living. In addition to the build, volunteers and community members participated in group discussions about how their communities prepare and respond to disasters. These sessions are designed to provide cultural learnings and insights from both sides.
