  • Who can argue with this simple and simply brilliant illustration. The next question is "What is Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage" In the case of CCUS, we have taken the so-called engineering further by transporting and injecting the CO2 into producing oil wells. The effect is to push more oil to the surface where the CO2 comes back out in a process called Enhanced Oil Recovery. We keep reinjecting CO2 into the system so that a certain amount is "stored" in the loop. Amazingly, we claim that this represents a net reduction on CO2. What is wrong with the current state of engineering:👇 Labeling a building as having "Building Integrated Carbon Capture" while simultaneously releasing the stored carbon back into the atmosphere through processes like PtX is a clear illustration of the critical issues within the field of engineering today. Danish engineering firm Søren Jensen is advocating "Building Integrated Carbon Capture" as a climate mitigation solution by capturing carbon from their office building, only to then reuse it in PtX. However, such systems do not break the carbon cycle; they merely delay it. In fact, this approach exacerbates the problem by requiring additional energy to capture, transport, and process the carbon, only for it to be released again later. This results in an increase, rather than a decrease, in the overall carbon footprint. Such flawed methods are analogous to biogas production, where energy is wasted converting biomass into a lower-grade energy form that is ultimately burned again. This perpetuates the cycle of overconsumption without addressing the root cause: excessive energy use. Just as biogas has kept animal agriculture alive by making waste useful, carbon capture technologies create a demand for more energy to capture, process, and reuse carbon, further entrenching the cycle rather than challenging it. This situation exemplifies the way our capitalist system functions, with the flawed belief that we can consume our way out of a problem that is, at its core, caused by overconsumption. • UEnergyHub Caribbean. In a groundbreaking move toward sustainable energy solutions, CZITT and Screaming Power have joined forces to establish the UEnergyHub Caribbean. This initiative aims to revolutionize collaborative energy research, enhance resilience, and drive positive change across the region. The UEnergyHub Caribbean will be a ‘Nexus of Innovation’. It will serve as a data hub and research entity, facilitating the analysis of energy demand and supply options. Its core functions include: Education – Fostering regional talent by providing a platform for learning and skill development. Sustainability and Outreach – Leveraging energy data for sustainable practices and community engagement. Climate Change Tracking – Understanding and addressing climate challenges through data-driven insights. The Caribbean is home to the majority of Small Island Developing States which are experiencing the worst effects of climate change, yet 90% of the region’s electricity comes from burning of fossil fuels. More frequent and intense hurricane events are resulting in electricity supply disruptions. The Caribbean must undertake a transition to cleaner, more efficient and resilient energy systems. Unlocking Energy Data is the path forward. The heart of UEnergyHub lies in its collaborative energy data hub network where the first pilot is already functional in Canada. By providing a flexible, secure infrastructure, the energy data hub enables real-time access to unbiased energy research. Researchers, innovators, and policymakers can explore emerging #AI technologies, #smartgrid solutions, #energyefficiency, and #renewableenergy options, using real energy usage and bill data. We are breaking down barriers. Historically, ongoing access to real energy data has been elusive. UEnergyHub aims to change that. Through ethical partnerships with universities and others in Canada and Caribbean countries, CZITT and Screaming Power will accelerate the implementation of disruptive technologies. By bridging the gap between energy suppliers and users, the market will evolve faster, driving sustainable solutions. As the UEnergyHub Caribbean takes shape, CZITT and Screaming Power invite stakeholders, academia, policymakers, and industry leaders to collaborate. Answering the call is Abris, AI and Web 3 innovators out of Andover, Massachusetts. Priya Samant Thomas Arul "CZITT employs future technology to create a climate-resilient future,” says Donald Baldeosingh, electrical engineer and Founder of Carbon Zero Institute of Trinidad and Tobago. “The key lies in accessing and analyzing energy data at scale, a critical component for informed decision-making,” says Gary Michor, CEO of Screaming Power. https://lnkd.in/e3ANnft5 Curtis Boodoo CARILEC - Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation Cletus Bertin Ph.D.

"I planted a Tree for the Planet." Application launched on World Environment Day 2024. CZITT's hard working team had the pleasure of visiting my Alma Mater, Hillview College in the afternoon. We launched a software application that encourages people to plant and record trees. The images and locations plus other data comes into the database where the trees are mapped, and users are credited. You will receive an email telling you how much of your carbon footprint you have offset or counterbalanced. The young Climate Ambassadors at Hillview have taken on the challenge of spearheading this initiative. Mr Bruce Seidel. CEO of 1st Reporting, Quebec, Canada, delivered video greetings, emphasising how they were inspired to support CZITT's efforts to create awareness and action in the fight against climate change. We are very grateful. Our Patron, Justice Anthony Carmona SC ORTT, Fifth and Former President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago delivered inspiring remarks and handed out Certificates of Recognition to 20 members of Hillview's team that advanced in CZITT's National Secondary Schools Climate Quiz Season III. A special award was made to Dylan Ramdass who placed second out of the 2400 competitors. The students collected more than 100 moringa seedlings to start the initiative. "Humani nihil alienum" the Hillview motto which we adopted 50 years ago! I am interested in everything human. Thank you Hillview.

Carribean Climate Observer reporting. Launch on World Environment Day 2024. CZITT started the day in the wonderful atmosphere at ASJA Girls' College, San Fernando. We launched a crowd-sourcing application for users to report their climate change observations. If you experience flooding, come across coastal erosion, or see an unnatural natural phenomenon, use our reporter to submit a report. The young ladies of ASJA Girls' collectively put up their hands and volunteered to pilot the system. We will fine tune it with their involvement - from inside the software to its application. The school used World Environment Day to launch a Weather Station - first in a school in TT - with the TT Met Office. CZITT was thrilled to launch our application. It can accept user input and also read the weather station. CZITT will map and collate the data, and make the reports available to agencies, researchers and in support of school projects. Our Patron, Justice Anthony Carmona SC ORTT, Fifth and Former President, used the occasion to recognise ASJA Girls' College San Fernando on their outstanding performance in the National Secondary Schools Climate Quiz Season III Stage One. Special thanks to 1st Reporting led by Bruce Seidel who gave CZITT use of their revolutionary software and customised it with us. Join us in collecting climate change observations as we keep working on solutions.

  • If CCS/CCUS is viable anywhere in the world, it is Trinidad and Tobago. We were once the world's largest exporter of ammonia and still are a world player. We have 11 world scale ammonia plants, although not all are operational due to gas shortages. For every ton of ammonia we produce, more than two tons of carbon dioxide are released to the atmosphere. In a typical ammonia plant, some 70% of the CO2 emissions can be found in a single stack (chimney). Hence, we do not have the complexity and cost of direct air capture. So let us focus on the S/US components, starting with Storage options. What is the cost? Who pays? How much of a contribution is the price of carbon offsets? The ammonia plants are open for ideas. There is funding. There is ongoing activity. Let us have a collaboration among stakeholders and offer some "Developed in TT" solutions to the world.

The Future Of CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage) !! https://lnkd.in/dnG_fvdA Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage refers to a set of technologies and processes used to capture carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from various sources, such as power plants and industrial facilities, and then either utilize the captured CO2 or store it underground to prevent its release into the atmosphere. Carbon Capture: The first step is to capture CO2 emissions from industrial processes, power plants, or other large-scale sources before they are released into the atmosphere. Carbon Utilization: Captured CO2 can be used as a feedstock in various industrial processes to produce valuable products such as chemicals, fuels, or construction materials. Utilization helps to create economic incentives for capturing CO2 and reduces the overall cost of CCUS. Carbon Storage: If carbon utilization is not feasible or sufficient, the captured CO2 can be stored underground in a process called carbon storage or carbon sequestration. The most common method is geological storage, where CO2 is injected deep underground into suitable geological formations, such as depleted oil and gas reservoirs or saline aquifers. CCUS technologies have the potential to significantly reduce CO2 emissions and help achieve climate change mitigation targets. They can be applied to a wide range of industries and sectors, including power generation, cement production, steel manufacturing, and natural gas processing.  #carbon #carboncapture #carbonstorage #carbonutilization #energy #powergeneration #carbonemissions #co2 #environment #sustainability #sustainable #oilandgas #climatechange #atmosphere

I am not speaking - unless by so doing there is a very good chance that it will bring about positive change. I gratefully accepted this invitation in the hope that I can contribute to latent leadership coming to the surface. Now I look forward to sharing a platform with some wonderful people - and generating action.
