👩⚕️What if family doctors could detect diabetic retinopathy early, right during a routine visit? At , we’re making this possible! Our latest study, published in the Journal of Ophthalmology (Ukraine), shows how AI can help transform diabetic retinopathy (DR) screening. Using the Retina-AI CheckEye© platform, we demonstrated that even in primary care settings, it’s possible to detect DR at different stages — including in patients who didn’t even know they had diabetes. 🩺 🔍The study also revealed something unexpected: our screening uncovered signs of hypertensive retinopathy in some patients, proving that AI tools can have a broader impact on health diagnostics. This technology doesn’t just support specialists — it empowers family doctors to catch risks early and ensure patients get the care they need before complications arise. We’re grateful to our partners at the Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy, MedCapitalGroup, and Bukovinian State Medical University for their collaboration. Three years ago, we launched launched Europe’s first nationwide screening for diabetic retinopathy. This project was a continuation of the "See the Colorful World" program and was implemented with the support of the Ukrainian Diabetic Federation and the Filatov Institute. Our goal — preventing vision loss — has been achieved! 🌍 We’ve expanded our horizons and are now a recognized leader in medical technologies. Over these three years, we’ve won the EIT Health InnoStars Awards, received the “Rising Star” award from Deloitte, triumphed at the Advanced Technologies & Treatments for Diabetes (ATTD) Tech Fair, and were included in Techosystem’s Top 100 Rising Startups. We’ve also secured grants from organizations like EBRD, WNISEF, Seeds of Bravery, the European Union, and more, which have helped us scale and grow. Thanks to strategic investments from Marien Apotheke, Austria’s largest pharmacy chain, we’ve opened doors to expanding across Europe. 🚀 We’ve also launched a pilot project in Germany, marking a key step in our international expansion. We're making strides to change that. 📍 New screening program in Chernihiv We’re excited to launch our diabetic retinopathy screening program at Communal Non-Commercial Enterprise "Family Clinic" of the Chernihiv City Council, located at Pyrohova Street, 15. 📊 The numbers are concerning  - Over 537 million adults are living with diabetes worldwide (IDF, 2021).  - In Ukraine, more than 1.3 million people are affected by diabetes.  - According to the World Health Organization, in 2022, 14% of adults aged 18 and older suffered from diabetes, which is a 7% increase since 1990. 🔬 Why this matters Early detection is critical. 🤔 How CheckEye’s data supports scientific breakthroughs A recent article in the journal Biomedicines MDPI explored the link between microvascular changes in the retina and the progression of diabetic retinopathy. 📖 The research was based on findings from our study, published in 2024 in the Journal of Ophthalmology (Ukraine). 🔬 Key takeaways from the research: - Microvascular changes in the retina are key indicators of diabetic retinopathy progression. - Artificial intelligence proved highly effective in analyzing retinal images and assessing disease stages. - Our platform’s data helped validate the diagnostic methods described in this new study.
