Today marks the anniversary of the founding of the European Union! 🎉 In celebration, we reflect on the impact of the #EU4Business program, which has been crucial in supporting Ukrainian businesses over the past four years. Launched in November 2020, this initiative, co-funded by the European Union and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), has provided vital recovery and innovation support amid challenges like the COVID-19 crisis and the ongoing full-scale invasion of Ukraine. These accomplishments represent the resilience of Ukrainian entrepreneurs and their journey towards a prosperous future, aligned with Ukraine's path to EU membership. In partnership with the CF Patients of Ukraine, GIZ Ukraine is launching a pilot project in three hromadas to create an integrated rehabilitation approach, aiming for future expansion. This project connects local councils, healthcare facilities, NGOs, and businesses to ensure continuous, targeted support for those in need. Representatives from Nizhyn, Rozdilna, and Bashtanka recently visited Ivano-Frankivsk to learn best practices from experienced institutions. “These two days of learning and seeing rehabilitation in action gave us a clear direction and the motivation to develop a new rehabilitation department for our community,” shares Alla Barseghyan, Director of Bashtanka Multidisciplinary Hospital. The project “Community-based rehabilitation in Ukraine: Piloting an Integrated Rehabilitation Approach in Targeted Hromadas” is funded by the European Union, implemented by the CF Patients of Ukraine and GIZ Ukraine within the ‘Special Assistance Programme Ukraine / EU4ResilientRegions’. #GIZ

✨ The cooperation between the SSST and the House of Integrity team continues to strengthen the professional community of the Service! For the first time in history, 250 inspectors from all over Ukraine, as well as the Service's chief staff, gathered to discuss the social value of transport safety control, successes in building a culture of integrity, the image of an inspector, and the evolution of legal aspects of state supervision (control). 🙌 The uniqueness of such an event is the development of horizontal connections between professionals from different territories, highlighting the uniqueness of challenges in each region, and visualising commonalities between them. As participants stated, it was the personal contact in the professional community and the opportunity for an in-depth dialogue about the future of the Service with their leaders at all levels that became the greatest value they would ‘take with them back home’. The House of Integrity project is implemented by RMTeam International in Ukraine with the support of the U-LEAD with Europe Programme.

Ukraine's coal regions are facing immense pressure due to the full-scale invasion, attacks on energy infrastructure, and reliance on a single industry. Now more than ever, they need comprehensive support that tackles economic, environmental, and social challenges. "The coal regions of Ukraine find themselves in an extremely difficult situation due to the destruction of energy infrastructure and military actions. We must support these regions in the structural changes that have already begun. Transitioning to renewable energy sources and improving energy efficiency will contribute to economic resilience and security. This will help restore infrastructure and create new opportunities for the people living there. We are currently laying the foundation for the future of these regions after the war," shares Miriam Faulwetter, GIZ Programme Director. A key part of this shift is a socially just approach, engaging everyone from the government to local communities. The Association of Coal Communities, which represents over 350,000 residents, is playing a vital role in this transformation. Together with local authorities and international partners like GIZ Ukraine, they are creating industrial parks, training programs in renewable energy, and new job opportunities. Concrete achievements are already in motion: - A concept for an industrial park with 3,000 jobs is ready. - The third renewable energy course is now available in vocational schools. - Over 550,000 people have received energy assistance through the German-Ukrainian Energy Partnership since the full-scale invasion began. These efforts are essential for rebuilding infrastructure and ensuring the long-term stability of Ukraine's coal regions, paving the way for a sustainable and resilient future. GIZ Ukraine is implementing the "Just Transition and Green Sector Recovery Ukraine" project on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. #GIZ
