AWYAD is a women-led, women, youth and child rights and services focused national NGO founded in Uganda in 2010. Vision: A society where women, children, and youth are free from all forms of inequality and violence, and are at the forefront of development. Mission: Empower vulnerable women, children and youth, to rise up against inequality and violence and actively participate in socio-economic processes of their communities. AWYAD objectives AWYAD's mission is achieved through putting 5 Empowerment strategic objectives and 5 Advocacy objectives: Objective 1: Achieve gender equality and ensure the protection of vulnerable women, children and youth from violence and empower them to challenge gender norms that cause and perpetuate inequality and violence Objective 2: Promote access to education and skills for the empowerment of vulnerable children, youth and women to enable them contribute to the development of their communities among others, Strategic pillar two: Advocacy and influencing objectives. AWYAD primarily works with women of all ages , children of 2 years to 15, Youth of 16 years to 25. These categories include women with disability, children with disability, and youth with disability. Our programs target national women, children and youth as well as refugee women, children and youth in rural and urban communities. While we do not engage in sexual minority rights promotion due to legal implications, our target groups include working with sexual minority women and youth. We work with women as individuals, through groups and through women networks at community, district and national levels. We work with Youth as individuals, through groups at community level, through clubs at school level and through networks at sub-county, district and national level. We work with children as individuals, through families, through parents-support groups at community level and through clubs at school level and networks at sub-county, district and national level.
