Margaret Nandutu’s jar of honey is more than just a harvest. It’s a source of income especially when crops are lost to climate disasters. We empower communities to adapt to climate change by creating alternative sources of livelihoods When nature thrives, so do the people in the communities we serve. Women are the backbone of Uganda’s agricultural sector making up more than half of the farming workforce. This year’s theme—Rights. Equality. Empowerment—guides our work at Bees and Trees Uganda. By equipping women with the tools, knowledge and opportunities they need, we strive to build a more inclusive and sustainable future for all. 💚 Happy International Women's Day 💚 #IWD #Women #Rights #Equality #Empowerment

Books shape minds and minds shape the future! 📚 This World Book Day, we celebrate the power of storytelling in teaching children about environmental sustainability. 🌱🐝 A big thank you to our incredible partner Future17 for helping bring this vision to life! #WorldBookDay
📚🌍 Happy World Book Day! 🌍📚 On this special day, we're excited to highlight the Bees & Trees 🌳 🌳 Story Book and App, a brilliant project that our Future17 students worked on. Helping to educate the younger generation about the crucial connections between nature, livelihoods, and climate. The project has enhanced the Bees & Trees children's book to make it more interactive, visually engaging, and easily understandable—a perfect tool for school-aged children to learn about environmental sustainability and the climate crisis. 🌱 The updated book features fun, interactive activities that encourage teamwork, problem-solving, and a sense of responsibility for protecting nature. It’s an inspiring, creative way for children to connect environmental knowledge with real-world action. In addition, the project team has developed an app for mapping trees and beehives, promoting transparency and accountability in tree planting and beekeeping initiatives. 🌳🐝 This app helps ensure that youth-led social enterprise projects, like Bees & Trees 🌳 🌳, can track their environmental impact and create lasting change in local communities. The project is aligned with three United Nations SDGs, focusing on climate action, life on land, and decent work and economic growth, supporting Bees & Trees’ mission to save nature and the climate while providing farmers with an additional source of income. Special thanks to the talented students from University of Exeter, American University of Sharjah, Stellenbosch University, and Tecnológico de Monterrey DM, as well as the incredible mentors from Satbayev University and Stellenbosch University, who have helped bring this impactful project to life! 🌟 A big shout-out to Stephen Bright Sakwa, Founder of Bees & Trees 🌳 🌳, for inspiring this innovative collaboration! 💡 Let’s continue to celebrate the power of storytelling and innovation in protecting our planet! 🌍✨ #WorldBookDay #Future17 #BeesAndTrees #EnvironmentalEducation #Sustainability #SDGs #YouthLedInitiative #ClimateAction #InteractiveLearning #TreePlanting #Beekeeping #InnovativeApp #SocialEnterprise #FutureGenerations #SaveNature #ClimateAction #SustainableFuture #Exeter #Stellenbosch #AUS #TEC_DM #Satbayev #Mentorship #SocialGood QS Quacquarelli Symonds, Re Oakley, Zoya Zaitseva, Hollie Kirk, Edvard Glücksman, Toby Vaughn Kidd

How often do you let the community lead? 🤔🌿 At Bees & Trees, we believe in listening more than talking. Farmers are the experts of their land, and we create safe spaces where they can share, challenge, and learn from one another. While unsustainable farming exists, so do incredible best practices. our role is to facilitate, support, and provide incentives for those leading the way in sustainability. It's time to shift the focus from imposing solutions to amplifying local knowledge. Photos from our recent collaboration with the Bosch Alumni Network #CommunityLed #SustainableFarming #BeesAndTrees

✨ YGC SPOTLIGHT ✨ For years, farmers around Mt. Elgon National Park suffered as land degradation became widespread, fueling biodiversity loss, landslides, and floods. Meanwhile, climate disasters left farming communities struggling to survive, pushing them toward unsustainable practices. Recognizing this crisis, Stephen Bright Sakwa co-founded Bees & Trees 🌳 🌳—an initiative that empowers farmers to restore degraded landscapes without sacrificing their livelihoods. By introducing beekeeping and coffee agroforestry, they offer an alternative: farmers plant trees, nourish bees 🐝, produce honey 🍯, and earn a stable income. The result? Healthier ecosystems, climate resilience, and economic empowerment. By ensuring fair compensation for farmers, they are proving that conservation and economic growth can go hand in hand. 🤝 📍 Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/duF7x2hV #ClimateAction #Agroforestry #Beekeeping #Conservation

Recognizing the significant rural-urban migration among youth, largely driven by low agricultural productivity caused by soil degradation, climate variability, and limited access to opportunities, we are prioritizing youth ecopreneurship as a core focus in our 2025–2030 strategic plan. We are setting out to create a new generation of young rural ecopreneurs to combat the climate crisis while making money. We would love to hear your ideas on how we can collaborate on this journey. Feel free to reach out to us at info@beesandtreesug.org We look forward to connecting with you!
