Digital Africa, through its €6.5 million Fuzé facility is supporting #tech #startups at the ideation and MVP stages addressing the critical lack of funding that can hinder development. In collaboration with HIVE COLAB, Fuzé hosted pitching sessions where startups presented their tech solutions to potential investors. These two-day pitching sessions exhibited the vibrant entrepreneurial spirit in Africa and the drive to create tech-driven solutions for pressing challenges.
The sessions featured remarkable tech startups such as maalicard which provides students with Malitoto digital accounts to promote financial discipline and eliminate issues like theft and misuse of physical pocket money in schools. Springtime Technologies, with its fintech product Springpesa offering digital wallets to underserved individuals and businesses, facilitating secure cash transfers and reducing reliance on physical cash in areas lacking traditional banking services. eMaisha Pay (Baobab ‘24) revolutionizing banking for Africa's smallholder farmers through a B2B2C model. Yo-Waste, a fintech-enabled waste management company which connects homes and businesses to waste collection services via a mobile app, serving over 2,000 clients in Kampala and Entebbe- collecting more than 600 tons of waste per month.
Other innovative startups include Kolaborate platforms, an African digital talent marketplace embracing the gig economy to empower young Africans with global earning opportunities; Kawu which enables students to save, transfer money and manage finances in school without needing smartphones or bank accounts; RentBeta, a fintech platform that allows renters to pay rent in convenient micro-installments, easing the burden of large monthly payments; and Trampo Technologies (We are raising), a logistics company leveraging technology to provide businesses with convenient access to reliable logistics services.
The exhibits of these tech startups signifies that Africa is experiencing steady technological growth, with more youth developing #innovative solutions that position the continent on the global stage. Opportunities offered by investors like Digital Africa are crucial to realizing Africa's growth and expansion in the tech sphere.
