On 5th and 6th August TeamUp Uganda Head of Program Coordination Monica Basemera participated in our sister program SAfA Tanzania first annual workshop event in Arusha. Discussions were aligned at reviewing their first year of implementation, reflecting on lessons learned, best practices centred on how the SAfA Tanzania implementing partners Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevoelkerung (DSW) Kühne Foundation Tanzania Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung - HRNS Tanzania. The SAfA Tanzania is a youth focused project aimed at empowering young people in Tànzania TeamUp Uganda is a consortium of implementing partners Action 4 Health Uganda Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung - HRNS Whave Solutions that seeks to improve youth livelihoods and quality of life in rural Uganda in the sectors of #Agriculture #Water #Health. Earlier today, celebrating the international youth day, the president of Uganda highlighted TeamUp Uganda ‘s impactful work. Makapads and organic fertilizers, products crafted by Ugandan youth, took center stage. TeamUp's focus on promoting economic independence and fostering youth entrepreneurship shines through these initiatives. #YouthEmpowerment #TeamUpUganda #InternationalYouthDay In his speech, the president highlighted that skilling young people to tackle current opportunities is at the core of all development planning for the nation. The flying nurses or 🐝 BEEs as we call them, bring extension services, commodities, and information to hard-to-reach areas in Mityana thus covering the last mile to the end users. TeamUp Uganda partner Action 4 Health Uganda draws lessons from the pilot phase where young women in remote rural areas expressed the need for family planning but found the long distances to the health centre, choice of commodities, and their availability challenging for family planning uptake. The flying nurses will bring these to their 🚪 doorsteps and increase FP delivery. Working hand in hand 💪 with the health centres 🏥 in their sub-counties, the flying nurses are another innovative approach for TeamUp Uganda to deliver services on SRHR as committed. At the recently concluded quarterly meeting convening the National Coordination Mechanism for Youth Programmes, Youth focused Civil Society Partners, Government Ministries, Department and Agency representatives, development partners and Non Governmental Organizations working in Uganda United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Reach A Hand Uganda Faraja Foundation @psi Anchors for Youth Afrika (AYA) Mastercard Foundation UNDP Sawa World to mention but a few came together to listen to the priorities of the new Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi.DR for young people. Among issues discussed were the related problems of teenage pregnancy, under employment and the need for coordinated efforts to handle many of the challenges faced by you people in the country. TeamUp Uganda is supporting @Ministry of Gender Labor and Social Development in bringing together all CSOs working with young people in the country to reduce the duplication, consolidate efforts in order to create sustainable impact. The history of working in silos pushed aside to consolidate resources and arrow them to the areas that really need development investment. For young people the challenges that they face are multi pronged and across multiple sectors.
