Huge congratulations to our 2023 Fellow Yotam Feldman who is first author on a paper that has been awarded 2023 Emerging Investigator Best Paper by the Journal of Chemical Physics 👇 . The award itself was made to his supervisor Barak Hirshberg Yotam credits the Schmidt Science Fellows application process as a meaningful milestone in his research career. It allowed him to step back, think deeply about the work he wanted to do, and reach out to people who could support him. He is incredibly appreciative of the support and freedom the Hirshberg Lab has provided. Congratulations to Barak and to Yotam on this achievement.

The more I watched, the more I realized how much their behavior was shaped by humans.” Wild animals need a lot of space, and we are taking that away from them. How do they navigate a world where human disturbances are everywhere and natural habitats are shrinking? 2019 Schmidt Science Fellow Kaitlyn Gaynor is an ecologist-turned-data-scientist harnessing an interdisciplinary approach to explore how our presence is changing the behavior of large animals across the globe, from black bears to snow leopards. Goodge , Yanbo Wang, - Such a wonderful and impactful program and initiative with such a strong message about the value and impact of interdisciplinary science and translation

Growing community at our first Interdisciplinary Science Summit, in association with the University of Toronto

Today, we opened our very first Interdisciplinary Science Summit, a major milestone in our mission to grow a global community of support. Our week-long event, in association with the University of Toronto, will bring together our growing Senior Fellow community, alongside research leaders, opinion formers, and guests.  Discussion sessions and workshops will explore advances in Interdisciplinary Science practice, and we are staging an Interdisciplinary Science Showcase to bring together a wider community for change.  Our Summit week kicked off today with the final Science Leadership Program (SLP) convening for our 2023 Cohort.  Our SLP is at the core of the Fellowship experience. It is how our Fellows come together in Fellowship to build the skills, experience, and networks necessary to become the next generation of science leaders.  This is the first time we have staged a Summit in this format and we are excited to use this strengthened platform to galvanize and grow our community. We are deeply grateful to the University of Toronto, which has been a longstanding supporter of the Program, for hosting this event.
