Throwback to the Exciting Expansion of St Edburg’s CE Primary School! We’re reminiscing about the incredible expansion at St Edburg's Church of England (VA) School, which was completed on the Kingsmere Estate in Bicester. This project created a new Early Years School, designed to enhance education for Nursery, Reception, and Key Stage 1 children. The emphasis was on combining indoor and secure, sheltered outdoor spaces to encourage free-flow learning. The building, designed by Clews Architects Ltd and constructed by Willmott Dixon, features a high-quality courtyard style with two teaching wings linked by communal spaces such as the library, hall, and studio. Our team, in collaboration with the School, Diocese of Oxford, and Oxfordshire County Council, provided project management, cost management, energy & sustainability, and project supervisor services. The new building, with energy and carbon reduction at its core, is designed to be net-zero in operation. It is primarily heated using air source heat pumps, with the goal of using electricity from a decarbonised grid. Additional sustainable features include photovoltaic panels, natural ventilation stacks, hybrid units with CO2 sensor controls, and electric vehicle charging points. This £12 million project increased the school’s capacity by 50%, significantly impacting the local community. What a journey it has been! 🌟
