Our core purpose is to create the conditions for an active nation.
There are 43 Active Partnerships across England who work collaboratively with local partners to create the conditions for an active nation using the power of sport and physical activity to transform lives.
Active Partnerships are strategic organisations that recognise activity levels are affected by a complex system of influences and no single organisation or programme create sustainable change at scale. So by adopting a collaborative whole system approach, Active Partnerships seek to make active lifestyles the social norm for everyone and address the worrying levels of inactivity in society.
The Active Partnerships national team leads, represents and supports the nationwide network of Active Partnerships and supports them to collaborate, sustain, add value and deliver impact. We are a charitable company and have a federated structure.

We’re excited to share that from today, County Durham Sport officially joins Rise North East! 🎉 This marks a significant step in our mission to transform lives through the power of physical activity across the North East.
By joining forces, we can:
🔹 Expand our reach and impact
🔹 Access new funding opportunities
🔹 Provide stronger support for local communities
Together, we’ll continue to break down barriers, promote physical activity, and create healthier, happier communities.
Earlier this week, our CEO, Andy Taylor, gave evidence to the Culture, Media and Sport Committee's 'Game On' inquiry into community and school sport. He highlighted why funding to the sector needs to be protected ⬇️

Earlier this month we held the first Multi-Sport Connect, Learn and Network event in Leicester. It was an important opportunity to hear from #ActivePartnerships and national partners, to connect with multi-sport work leads, and to understand the future direction of multi-sport initiatives.
Thanks to everyone involved in organising this event including Sport England, the Football Foundation, the LTA, England Netball and the regional leads from the Active Partnerships network.

Our ‘Continuing the Movement for Active Ageing’ conference last month was a great opportunity for delegates to learn, connect, collaborate, share experiences and do even better in supporting Older Adults in Cumbria, particularly those with or at risk of long-term health conditions, to be more active.
Post event delegates had the opportunity to register for Later Life Training who have designed a series of fit for purpose, achievable Learning Action Agendas for team leads who would like the opportunity to increase learning and consistency, and to develop standardised approaches to supporting behaviour changes relating to home exercise, physical activity and moving more
In 2025, we're looking forward to exploring new ideas and collective approaches towards helping older adults in Cumbria become more physically active so they can enjoy the benefits of healthier lifestyles and Live Longer Better.
Our conference video wrap, below, gives you an insight into some of the brilliant discussions and workshops that took place which we hope will inspire action.

The #ActivePartnerships network is welcoming this week's launch of new webpages from the NHS, for health and care professionals in England, which highlight the benefits and evidence base for embedding physical activity across systems and communities.
The ‘four ways forward’ support the delivery of the Government’s ambitions, with links to tools and resources that empower staff to take action and to advocate for increasing physical activity, with case studies that showcase innovative collaborations between local systems and partners.
We have supported this work which very much aligns with the Active Partnerships Network's objectives and is an important moment to connect our collective ambitions to integrate physical activity into health and care.

In advance of Spring Statement on Wednesday 26 March, members of the Sport and Recreation Alliance, sector partners and organisations from across the sport, recreation, and physical activity space have come together to highlight the potential significant adverse impacts of the Government’s proposed changes to health and disability benefits and employment support – set out in Pathways to Work: Reforming Benefits and Support Green Paper – on disabled people and participation in sport, recreation and physical activity.
The changes risk creating even greater barriers for disabled people to access the physical and mental health benefits of an active lifestyle and undermining progress made by Sport England’s Uniting the Movement strategy in tackling inactivity and social isolation among disabled people.
As organisations – and a sector more broadly – we remain committed to working with the Government to discuss and help address the issues highlighted, and drive positive change.
