Did you know an active lifestyle saves the UK £10.5 billion per year in health and social care costs. It helps prevent: ✅ 1.3 million cases of depression ✅ 600,000 cases of diabetes ✅ 57,000 cases of dementia But not everyone has equal access to movement, which is why we work with partners across health, education, transport and more to improve lives through physical activity.

We’re working with residents in Gateshead and South Tyneside to break down barriers to physical activity and create lasting change.✨ As part of our place-based work, we will be engaging with communities to find out what barriers are preventing them from being physically active, so together we can make movement more inclusive and accessible.💚

If you’re a sports volunteer or a parent/carer of children in sport, join us for the next FREE Active Bystander Training expertly delivered by NWG: 📅 16th April, 7pm 🎟 Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/eAGdRWM9 Together, we can protect children and create safer spaces in sport. 🙌

Earlier this month Sport England announced 53 new places that will benefit from a share of £250 million, so that those in greatest need are able to be physically active. We are incredibly proud to be part of this and bring new opportunities for physical activity to Gateshead and South Tyneside! With 33% of adults in Gateshead and 30% in South Tyneside classed as physically inactive, and too many children missing out on the benefits of movement, this investment will help make activity accessible for all. We're excited to work with local partners to make a real impact! 💪

Happy International Women's Day!🌟 Today, we celebrate all women, and we especially want to give a shout-out to the incredible women who make up our Rise team. Thank you for breaking barriers, challenging norms, and making a difference in our communities. 💪❤️ We also want to highlight the This Girl Can campaign which we are incredibly proud to be apart of. This amazing initiative aims to tackle the gender activity gap and empower women to embrace physical activity in ways that suit them, regardless of age, background, or ability. The programme focuses on breaking down barriers, boosting confidence, and creating a supportive environment where all women feel encouraged and able to take part. 💪✨

We are thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a £1000 grant from Tesco Stronger Starts! 🎉 With child poverty at record levels, rising childhood obesity, and low school readiness scores, many children in the North East face significant challenges. This grant will go towards our Step Outdoors sessions, helping young children get active in nature, building confidence, and improving physical and mental wellbeing. A huge thank you to everyone who voted for our project! #tescostrongerstarts Tesco Groundwork
