EV CHARGING: Unikie and ROCSYS partner on hands-free charging #Unikie and #Rocsys have announced a long-term technology partnership to integrate Rocsys’s hands-free charging solution (including the ROC-1 robot and the Rocsys API) with the Unikie Marshalling Solution. Aimed at fully autonomous fleet operations, the partnership will initially be implemented in #bus and #logistics depots, with a view to implementation on other depots in the future (the use of Rocsys’s API means future Rocsys hardware will also be compatible with the Unikie system). Joachim Hauser, head of sales and strategy at Unikie Marshalling Solutions, said, “We want to ensure that our customers have early access to the latest technology and solutions that will help them to disrupt and revolutionize their industries. We are happy to work with Rocsys to offer advanced operational efficiency to our customers.” Elwin Roetman, director of strategic partnerships at Rocsys, commented, "We are excited to partner with Unikie and to expand our offering by bringing Rocsys’s hands-free charging solution to fleets in bus depots. LEGISLATION: Wayve and WMG, University of Warwick launch #DriveSafeAI microsite to support #AI in autonomous driving A new microsite, Drive-Safe.ai, has been launched by #Wayve in collaboration with #WMG at the University of Warwick to share insights, research and tools focused on AI safety in automated driving technology. Dr Sarah Gates, director of public policy, Wayve, said, “DriveSafeAI is a model for developing evidenced-based safety frameworks that can build regulator and stakeholder confidence, driving innovation while ensuring the highest safety standards. This balanced approach enables safe technology development that will lead to safer roads and a more robust global AV market.” Prof Siddartha Khastgir, head of safe autonomy, WMG, the University of Warwick, said, “Through DriveSafeAI, partnering with a leading embodied AI organization like Wayve, WMG can create a robust and novel safety approach to AI while enabling scalability and innovation. SAFETY: Waymo debuts new data hub to showcase its #safety Waymo, owned by Google’s parent company, Alphabet Inc., has launched a new #data hub that compares Waymo's crash rates with those of humans. The hub will be regularly updated to provide transparency of the company's operations. Waymo operates in Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Austin. The hub hosts data with methodologies that contrast autonomous and human driving performance. It also complies with industry best practices, such as the recently introduced RAVE (Retrospective Automated Vehicle Evaluation) checklist for safety evaluation, according to the company. TRUCKS: Continental’s mobility study shows widespread acceptance of #autonomoustrucks A mobility study by infas Institut für angewandte Sozialwissenschaft GmbH on behalf of Continental in Germany, China, France, Japan and the USA shows widespread acceptance of self-driving trucks. It surveyed 1,000 people and the full results are set to be published in October 2024. Philipp von Hirschheydt, executive board member for Continental’s automotive group sector, said, “We’re delighted that the majority of respondents already see the benefits of autonomous trucks. PARTNERSHIP: ZF Group and Infineon Technologies use #AI to optimize software and control units #ZF and #Infineon Technologies have implemented AI algorithms for the development and control of vehicle software as part of the the #EEmotion project, co-funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. "The EEmotion funding project shows that our artificial intelligence-based algorithms provide our customers with new advantages: AI makes it possible for products to be equipped with new functions and to be developed faster and more efficiently," said Torsten Gollewski, head of research and development at ZF. “With our world-leading semiconductor products, software and services, Infineon enables customers to develop their own AI applications,” said Peter Schiefer, president of Infineon’s automotive division. V2X: LG Electronics’ V2X module gets world’s first #CommonCriteria certification LG’s vehicle-to-everything (V2X) solution for Volkswagen has received the world’s first Common Criteria (CC) certification for security stability in its category. The device is LG’s VW Transceiver Module – a #telematics component developed for Volkswagen’s ICE-specific MQB platform. “By earning CC certification for the security of our #V2X solution for Volkswagen, we have effectively demonstrated our superior component technology and security capabilities, both of which are key elements for success in the future mobility sector,” said Seokhyun Eun, president of LG vehicle component solutions." #CONNECTIVITY: Six CAM SMEs secure UK government funding Six SMEs have secured up to £100,000 (US$131,000) in grant funding from the 2024 CAM Scale-Up UK program, delivered by Zenzic. These businesses aim to help the UK become a leader in the development and deployment of connected and automated mobility (CAM) solutions. The latest group is the fifth cohort of SMEs supporting exciting transportation innovations including disability wheelchair access on public buses, and driver fatigue and safety monitoring. The companies are BLUESKEYE AI, Deontic UK, Maaind, Moonbility, Opteran and SAIF Systems.
