What an honour for our Barbados Heritage District project to be named in the National Geographic Best of the World 2025 list. Situated adjacent to the Newton Enslaved Burial Ground, where the remains of 570 West African slaves were uncovered, the memorial demarcates a site of tragedy and trauma, transforming it into a charged place of commemoration, remembrance, and connection. Aligning the sacred landscape with notions of renewal and rebirth, the memorial addresses the catastrophic past whilst celebrating the potential for new futures through an inherently African design in which the cycle of birth to death, born from the Earth and returning, becomes manifest and mediated through architecture. https://lnkd.in/e2eXvjMT https://lnkd.in/eb_s67Pe #Barbados #Nationalgeographic

https://lnkd.in/gVbrFBMd The Studio Museum's new home replaces the adapted commercial building designed in 1982. This project, the museum’s first custom-built facility, is a result of a public-private partnership with the City of New York. It will enable the museum to expand its exhibitions, programs, and public spaces while establishing a prominent architectural presence in the Harlem community. designboom

A scroll through GothamToGo's feature of Studio Museum in Harlem's Opening in the Fall of 2025. “The new building is a manifestation of a concept of the studio incubator bringing together artists and the community as one cultural institution. The Studio Museum threads a horizontal line through making, producing and learning. Architecturally, the essence of the project was to bring this cultural triptych together in tandem with the plurality of being part of a Black neighborhood and also part of New York City and the international art scene.” - David Adjaye Click link below to read full article here: https://lnkd.in/d634fDRF #Adjaye #AdjayeAssociates #Architecture #Design #Studiomuseum #Museum #ThelmaGolden #Harlem #NewYork #USA

The Studio Museum in Harlem is poised to unveil its new building in 2025. Studio Museum in Harlem, New York, will welcome visitors to its new home on 125th Street in the fall of 2025. The first exhibition to be held in the building, for which Adjaye Associates served as design architect and Cooper Robertson as executive architect, will feature the work of artist, activist, and educator Tom Lloyd, whose work appeared in the first-ever show held by the museum, in a rented Fifth Avenue loft in 1968. Inspired by the masonry architecture of Harlem and its rich artistic and cultural landscape, the design distinctly plays on familiar architectural tropes of Harlem, such as frames, apertures and doorways. The scale of the reverse stoop considers the soaring cathedral-like interiors of local churches. “This building represents the collective aspirations of all who have been involved in thinking about what it would mean to make a museum on 125th Street devoted to the work of Black artists,” museum director Thelma Golden (New York Times). https://lnkd.in/d7hqA_9N #Adjaye #AdjayeAssociates #Architecture #Design #Construction #innovation #Museum #Art #StudioMuseum #Harlem #NewYork #TomLlyod #BlackArtist #Exhibition #ProjectOpening
