This morning Paul Sheerin, Debbie Wilson and a number of our members were at Alexander Dennis for another fantastic Member Networking and Best Practice Event. Attendees were treated to a ride on the new Enviro400EV vehicle to the Alexander Dennis headquarters and a factory tour around their new facility seeing their production line in action. We would like to extend a huge thanks to Euan Cameron, Kieran McAusland, Stuart McKinnon, Stuart Mackay and the rest of the team at Alexander Dennis for hosting us today.

Its 13’6” height allows it to operate in virtually every part of the USA and Canada and a choice of vehicle layouts offers up to 86 seats, one or two staircases to upper deck, and 2 ADA-compliant wheelchair positions. The Enviro500 for North America is fully supported through both Alexander Dennis and NFI Parts.

We recently completed the delivery of six Enviro200 midibuses to LeShuttle Freight, part of Getlink Group. Prior to delivery, the 8.9m long buses were adapted by our AD24 workshop in Harlow to LeShuttle’s bespoke specification with seats removed to create more room for standees and an additional door added on the driver’s side to enable flexible boarding from and alighting to either side of the bus. LeShuttle operates shuttle trains for heavy goods vehicles through the Channel Tunnel between terminals at Folkestone and Calais. Drivers are picked up from their lorries by the new fleet of Alexander Dennis Enviro200 midibuses to be taken to the Club Car at the front of the train. As trains can stop at either platform face, the additional offside doors ensure that lorry drivers do not have to cross the path of the bus when boarding or alighting. Rod Hunt, Security Logistics & Transport Manager at LeShuttle, said: “Our new Enviro200 buses have surpassed our expectations as we have successively introduced them to our fleet,. They are testament to Alexander Dennis’s great approach to meeting customer requirements, combining doors on both sides with low-floor access to ensure that they can pick up and drop off drivers safely as well as quickly.” Our Commercial Manager for Workshops Billy Downey added: “These new Enviro200 buses for LeShuttle have been fully prepared by our expert team in the AD24 workshop in Harlow, adding additional doors and adjusting the interior layout. Together with the sister facility in Anston, we have the largest vehicle repair and adaptation capacity in the country and are fully equipped to deliver complex work to highest standards.” Our Regional Sales Manager Mark Taylor said: “I’m pleased to conclude the delivery of these six new buses, fully adapted to LeShuttle’s specific requirements, after their conversion by our fantastic AD24 colleagues in Harlow. This further develops our relationship with LeShuttle, which began with an earlier generation of six similar Enviro200 built in 2015 and 2018. It’s great to know that our buses play such an important role in keeping freight moving across the Channel.”

We had the honour of welcoming the Mayor of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority Andy Burnham and the Mayor of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Steve Rotheram to our factory in Larbert today alongside Euan Stainbank MP. The Mayors met apprentices who have been involved in the production of buses for Transport for Greater Manchester's Bee Network and Merseytravel, underlining how their investment in British-built buses underpins skilled jobs and apprenticeships at our facilities around the country and in our extensive domestic supply chain. We look forward to continuing our conversation on supporting local communities through upgrades to our cities' bus networks.

We've delivered three Enviro400 low-emission buses to Isle of Lewis-based Lochs Motor Transport this year, with two more now on order. Each seating 85 passengers and offering low-floor access for wheelchair users, they are the first double deckers ever to be operated in Lewis and Harris. They were bought following the award of a new contract to supply a shuttle service for ship cruise passengers visiting the Western Isles, linking Stornoway’s new deep water terminal to the town centre. Their extra capacity will also be useful on busy school services. Lochs Motor Transport Director Roddy MacDonald said: “The Alexander Dennis Enviro400 is great value for money for a high-capacity vehicle that is easy to maintain and operate. Visitors can appreciate the beauty of the Western Isles through panoramic windows from comfortable seats, and we’re more easily able to accommodate large numbers of customers, which is why we’ve ordered a further two double deckers for next year.” Our Regional Sales Manager Lee Gibson added: “I’m grateful for the trust placed in Alexander Dennis when Lochs Motor Transport chose us to supply their first ever double deckers after buying Plaxton coaches for many years. We look forward to continuing to support Roddy and his team next year with another pair of Enviro400 double deckers for cruise ship services, the port authority, schools and private hire.” (📸 Thanks to Donald Macarthur for the images of the buses in service)

Our cyber security management system has been certified by the UK's Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) in accordance with UN Regulation 155! This follows an audit by VCA experts that analysed our documents, tools, templates and processes as well as interviews with key members of staff involved in the operation of the processes. We have comprehensive safeguards in place to minimise and adequately manage the risks of malicious attacks during development, production and postproduction of vehicles. The approval represents a major milestone in our commitment to vehicle cyber security which underpins the development of future products and services. By following the standards of UN Regulation 155, we can be sure to have a solid framework to protect our and our customers’ data, assets and technology. Our team has also used ISO SAE 21434 on cybersecurity engineering for road vehicles in order to develop the CSMS, further adopting internationally recognised best practice. Our Group Engineering Director Chris Gall explains: “We take all aspects of security at every stage of a vehicle’s life extremely seriously. A robust cyber security management system is key to minimise the risk of malicious interference and we are proud to have put this in place and have its compliance recognised by the VCA.” #LeadingtheZEvolution
