We're thrilled to have Thales UK as a national partner for our Leaders Award competition! 👏 UK pupils from ages 3-19 answered the question "If you were an engineer, what would you do?" as part of our Leaders Award competition and submitted incredible engineering ideas during 2023-2024. Now this year, Thales UK will be turning 6 of those competition entries into 6 impressive prototypes! Ideas such as Millie's "Rainbow Glasses," a pair of glasses with interchangeable coloured lenses designed to help people with dyslexia. See how Thales Cheadle are bringing her vision to life: https://lnkd.in/e5UwQksw ProtoTeams select from a range of pupil designs or ideas, choosing one to prototype across the next academic year, with this being exclusively available for our Regional and National Partners. 3/6 Primary Engineer Leaders Award School Visits Complete for 24/25. St Ninian’s Primary in Prestwick walked along with some of their P7’s for a fun day at GE Aerospace, Caledonian as part of the Leaders Award competition. They were a brilliant bunch and energised the shopfloor as they walked around learning about our overhaul process. Huge shout out to Robert Muir for his time, knowledge and enthusiasm as the pupils visited the Test Cell. And massive thanks to Jackie McPhee, Chris Maxwell & Liam Johnstone for their time and support. Three brilliant engineers for the pupils to listen to and ask all their questions too. Best of luck to St Ninian’s Primary in the competitions; you all made a great start to your entries. Definitely some engineers in the making! Primary Engineer Carl Graham Hannah Jennings Andy Prow

Shout out to Halil Bedevi MSc, FMM, CEng, FIET who took engineering into classroom, literally! These pupils will take inspiration from Halil's visit before coming up with their own engineering ideas, something that wouldn't be possible without the engagement from Halil. If you are an engineer and want to learn how you can help inspire #EngineersInTheMaking, then join us today! https://lnkd.in/dAwzzW5j

Last week, I was playing my part to inspire the next generation of engineers by getting school children informed and excited about Engineering and Manufacturing - hopefully sparking a passion that leads some of them into the field! I had the opportunity to visit a school in London, where I presented to 250 students aged 7 to 11. We explored what it means to be an engineer, the crucial role engineers and manufacturers play, and the diverse career opportunities within these industries. The session also included a Q&A, and I was genuinely impressed by how much some of the students already knew about engineering, manufacturing, and technology. Their insightful questions and thoughtful answers showed a real enthusiasm for the subject. The highlight for many of them seemed to be my involvement in the BepiColombo space mission - a spacecraft built in the UK by a team I was fortunate to be a part of. Currently on an incredible eight-year journey to Mercury, it's set to arrive in November 2026. The sheer scale and ambition of the mission left many students amazed, and honestly, it still blows my mind too! I'm also excited that the school will be participating in the "If you were an engineer, what would you do?" competition, organized by the Primary Engineer I wish them the best of luck with their entries and can't wait to see the innovative ideas they come up with! #EngineersInTheMaking #engineering #manufacturing #ukmfg #ukmanufacturing #ukengineering #supportingukmanufacturing #supportukmanufacturing #inspiringyoungminds Manufacturing IQ

WOW WOW WOW! 😮 The story about our Commendation Medal is out! 🎉 Rebecca Young, a pupil from Kelvinside Academy, came up with the idea for a Solar Powered Heated Blanket to help the homeless as part of the Leaders Award Competition. The Thales ProtoTeam from Glasgow then turned this idea into a prototype that went on to win the Public Vote at the 2024 Primary Engineer MacRobert Medal. 🏅 This has been picked up by the press and the congratulations and admiration for Rebecca has come POURING in - and rightly so! 👏 This was part of our free national competition for schools that asks the question "If you were an engineer, what would you do?". If you think your pupils can come up with ideas to change the world like Rebecca did, then join the competition today! >>> https://lnkd.in/eagR4Gzs Susan Scurlock MBE Christopher Rochester Andrew Norris Jason Stone Natasha Kinnear Daniel Summerfield Steph Shencoe Jamie McIlvenny Emma Thursby Colin Scouller Ruairidh Colombini Allison #EngineersInTheMaking

Interviewing engineers and engineer engagement is the first step in our Leaders Award Competition which asks UK pupils aged 3-19 'If you were an engineer, what would you do?'. On Tuesday 11th March 2025 we will be hosting a live engineer interview with Joseph, an engineering apprentice at Thales as together we dive deep into the world of submarines. Thales UK are a longstanding National Partner on our Leaders Award Competition. From September - March every year we host interviews with engineers, they share how they use creative problem-solving in their work and inspire the pupils to find their own engineering idea plus pupils get to ask the questions that matter to them. This interview is exclusively available to schools and home learners as part of our competition. 👉 Simply log in/register for our competition: https://lnkd.in/ebRXFTsP 👉 Go to resources 👉 RSVP for the webinar Know a school who would love to take part in the competition?
