🎉Huge congratulations to the FoFoRAN project team, for winning the prestigious Barrier Breaker award🏆 This ground-breaking project is revolutionising manufacturing connectivity with OpenRAN, paving the way for the factories of the future. FoFoRAN, a pioneering global initiative, builds on the foundation laid by the 5G Factory of the Future project, directly addressing the unique challenges of industrial 5G deployment. Instead of simply adapting consumer tech, FoFoRAN focused on: • Meeting stringent industrial needs: Delivering reliable, low-latency connectivity for critical operations. • Developing 5G devices: Eliminating bottlenecks and maximising performance. • Significantly reducing infrastructure costs: Making private 5G accessible to SMEs. LCA Group wanted to measure a complex laser cutting process and turned to AMRC Cymru for support through its Flintshire sustainable decarbonised future (FAST) programme. Engineers connected an energy monitoring sensor to the complex laser cutting machine, finding varying power consumption during idle states. The work revealed the potential for optimisation which would save 35 per cent of its energy consumption, as well as associated costs and emissions. As part of the FAST project, AMRC Cymru engineers worked to analyse the trends in power consumption at Sterling Pharma Solutions’ Deeside facility. Whilst vital for the operation of the business, the water for injection system (WFI) and boiler distillation (BD) skid were major consumers of energy. Using energy sensors, the team were able to provide insights to enable changes to be made at Sterling, which would reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. The resulting reduction in energy consumption saved over £22,000 in operating costs for the site. You can read more about the work here 👉 bit.ly/4kytYZw Flintshire County Council
