Anthropocene Architecture School reposted this
Today, World Architecture Day 2024 is all about "Empowering the Next Generation in Participatory Urban Design." So this is a great opportunity to share news about a recent collaboration between Anthropocene Architecture School, Edinburgh School of Architecture Climate Action (ESALA Climate Action) and Architects Climate Action Network (ACAN). At the end of September, Scott McAulay from Anthropocene Architecture School tested out a new workshop ‘Activating Agency’, that begins by laying foundational climate literacies before inviting audience participation* (*which Scott would like to point out was slightly hindered by technology… a learning opportunity for future iterations!). After holding an open space and making time for those in the room to share how they feel about the ongoing climate crisis - which was the first time many had been asked to do so in a learning environment - and quantifying the extent of how much agency they feel they have, this workshop rolls into case studies, replicable examples and then the dreamlike scale of possibilities dormant in the retrofit of our homes for catalysing a Just Transition. Whilst facilitating the workshop, Scott took time to talk of other organisations that AAS collaborates with, supports and that he is also a member of personally. Connecting students to the world beyond university design studios, lecture theatres and campuses is fundamental and critical work for those educating. The workshop ended with a screening of 'Retrofit Reimagined - The Future is Already Here', to demonstrate to the students what kind of futures could be on the way and what being part of building conducive environments and infrastructures for transformative change can look like. The film can be found on the CIVIC SQUARE YouTube channel. #WorldArchitectureDay #ArchitectureStudents #Architects #SustainableFuture
