We were pleased to welcome Heidi Alexander MP, Secretary of State for Transport, to Whitehead-Ross Education’s Swindon office on Friday. Heidi had a tour of our facilities and participated in a virtual mock job interview using our new ARuVR® immersive goggles. We highlighted that: 💨 The new Labour Government needs to move much faster in introducing new provision to address the one million young people who are economically inactive, otherwise it risks a generation of long-term unemployed adults. Following Traineeships ending in 2023 a major service void has been left behind. 🆘 Many of the highly experienced organisations in the employability sector are going to have to tread water just to survive this year with reduced #ukspf funding and limited new skills and employability provision being commissioned. The Budget in October announced little new cash for skills and employability provision, which isn’t going to help with the Government’s economic growth aspirations. 🌱With such a focus on green, renewable and construction skills, many of the skills programmes that exist cannot respond to these challenges due to the disjoin with funding rules and programme constraints. For example, a heat pump engineer cannot be trained in just 16 weeks, which is the maximum a Skills Bootcamp can run for.
