If you have a team, this is a really good article to read: It outlines strategies to identify 'employee disengagement', emphasising the importance of detecting it early on. It suggests using surveys, interviews, and analytics to gauge employee sentiments, behaviours, and performance. Key indicators include absenteeism, turnover rates, and lack of enthusiasm. It further suggests that utilising data-driven approaches helps companies proactively address disengagement, and therefore creating a more motivated and productive workforce. #astrumsearch #employeeengagement https://lnkd.in/dUg-XAdQ

The next competitive advantage in talent: Continuous employee listening: The article discusses the importance of continuous employee listening using people analytics to understand evolving workplace needs. Annual surveys are no longer sufficient in the fast-paced, post-COVID world. McKinsey's experience demonstrates the effectiveness of a weekly pulse survey to monitor employee sentiment. Through analytics, leaders can address issues like remote work, mental health, and inclusion in real-time. Successful implementation requires technical expertise, data management, and leadership involvement. Such a strategy enhances employee experience, team health, connectivity, learning, inclusion, and individual support, ultimately providing a competitive advantage in talent retention and performance. #astrumsearch #employeeengagement #employeeretention https://lnkd.in/gfDYpsfR

Why Encouraging Time Off Should Be Your Company’s No. 1 Resolution This Year Encouraging employees to take time off, rather than overworking, benefits both individuals and companies. Despite available paid time off, many employees don't utilise it, contributing to burnout. Time off enhances performance, decreases burnout, and improves retention. Creating a supportive culture that values time off, modeled by leadership, is crucial. Many companies encourage a minimum amount of time off to ensure employees prioritise self-care. Overall, having a 'time off-friendly' environment enhances well-being and productivity. #astrumsearch #timeoff #holidaytime https://lnkd.in/gui3t9kX

Accounting in 2024: The year ahead in numbers Accounting Today conducted its annual Year Ahead survey to find out firms' expectations for 2024, including their growth expectations & hiring plans, plus much more. The report indicates that accountants expect a successful 2024 with revenue growth similar to 2023. Hiring is a top concern due to a "pipeline problem" with fewer students studying accounting, creating a war for talent. While firms plan to increase technology spending, only 13% have implemented AI tools, with 26% planning to do so in 2024. The hybrid work model is stable, with about half of the staff working remotely. To address challenges, the report suggests scrutinising workplace policies, utilising technology, and instituting formal planning processes. #astrumsearch #accountingservices #2024outlook https://lnkd.in/gB-ZhBm2

‘Computer says no’: more employers are using AI to recruit, increasing the risk of discrimination Summary of this article: Employers' increasing use of AI in recruitment poses a risk of discrimination, as technology-driven decisions may filter out qualified candidates based on class, background, or disability. Technologies like contextual recruitment systems, asynchronous video interviews, gamification, and social media screening may inadvertently favour certain demographics, disadvantaging others. Algorithms assessing publicly available or volunteered data may not accurately reflect real-life disadvantages. The rise of gamification and cyber-vetting introduces biases against candidates with disabilities or from less privileged backgrounds. While technology offers efficiency, there's a pressing need for employers to ensure it doesn't amplify discrimination based on protected attributes. #astrumsearch #aiinterviews #airecruitment https://lnkd.in/gbkKK72B

EY's innovative use of AI in detecting audit frauds sparks debate Really interesting article - to summarise; EY has successfully implemented AI in its audit processes, leading to the detection of fraud in two out of the first 10 evaluated companies. The AI system, named EY Helix GL Anomaly Detector (Helix GLAD), efficiently analyses large datasets, transforming auditing by enhancing accuracy and reducing the risk of financial irregularities going unnoticed. The system's benefits include speed, objectivity, and reliability in fraud detection. Challenges include integration into existing systems, continuous monitoring for evolving fraud patterns, and the need for regulatory approval. The industry remains divided on AI's reliability, emphasising the importance of gaining auditors' trust. #astrumsearch #aiadvancements #EY https://lnkd.in/eAp6_Xma

10 Predictions for 2024 from a World-of-Work Expert Dan Schawbel is a New York Times best-selling author and managing partner of Workplace Intelligence. Here is a summary of his forecast of the top 10 workplace trends that will impact how we work and live in 2024. In this article he is looking at the US market, but no doubt this will apply to many countries. In 2024, workplace trends include widespread adoption of hybrid work arrangements, with 80% of Fortune 500 CHROs planning to maintain remote work flexibility. The rise of generative AI, particularly ChatGPT, will impact knowledge work across various industries. Employee burnout remains a significant issue, with 6 out of 10 global employees disengaged, prompting a focus on mental health support. Health benefit costs will increase, leading to a focus on improving patient outcomes. Lack of childcare support may lead to a workforce exodus, particularly among working mothers. The resumption of student loan repayments emphasises the importance of student debt benefits. Labor movements and strikes will continue to gain strength, while experiments with shorter workweeks may address burnout concerns. Climate change will impact employee well-being, pressuring companies to reduce carbon emissions. Workforce surveillance may increase to ensure hybrid workers return to the office, but employees may push back against monitoring measures.
