Connecting people to water through creative content🌊🌍

About us

Atlantean Media is a global digital content strategy and creation company specialising in water. Our mission🦸♂️🦸♀️ Water is life’s greatest, yet most under appreciated resource. Solutions to the global water crisis exist, yet are often plagued by uninspiring communication. We’re hell-bent on changing this. How? We knit together three elements to challenge the status quo: creativity, a curated global network and solid industry knowledge. The result? Meaningful content that provokes, inspires and connects. Our Vision 💥 We believe in a future of abundance. Where access to clean water and local healthy environments are normal. Where relationships between water consumers and providers are positive. A world where siloes have been smashed, not blamed and solutions are scaled and rolled out equitably; not only for the rich or fortunate. We believe creative storytelling can connect the dots to get us there.

Europe's state of water 2024 isn’t looking great. The European Environment Agency's latest report paints a concerning picture of the continent's water resources. From pollution and overuse to the impacts of climate change, Europe faces a growing water crisis. The key findings are: 🧪 Rivers, lakes, and groundwater continue to suffer from contamination, threatening both human health and ecosystems. 💧 Over-abstraction and inefficient water management practices deplete water resources in many regions. 🌡️ Rising temperatures and changing rainfall patterns are exacerbating water scarcity and droughts Full report in the comments 👇 #water #waterscarcity #pollution #waterquality #climatechange

The first four sections of the Thames Tideway Tunnel, London's new "super sewer," have begun operating, tackling a long-standing problem: overflowing sewage during heavy rain. The giant valves at four of the 21 sites on Tideway London’s tunnel are now open. The remaining sites will become operational in the coming months, and the entire sewer system will be fully functional by 2025. The Environment Agency said the project would reduce storm sewage spills into the tidal Thames "by around 95%". Huge! Here's what makes the project so impressive: 🦸♂️ The massive 25-kilometer tunnel runs deep beneath the city, capturing raw sewage before it pollutes the Thames. It's a hidden hero quietly working to keep London's waterways clean. 🌳 By preventing sewage overflows, the super sewer significantly reduces harmful pollution in the river, it’s a win for the environment and aquatic life in the river. 🔮 With London's population expected to grow, the super sewer ensures the city's sewage system can handle future demands. It's a smart (and critical) investment in London's long-term sustainability and infrastructure. The BBC reported that data published on Monday showed that in one day, when London saw heavy rainfall on 23rd September, 589,000 cubic metres of wastewater were captured by the tunnel with just the first connections activated. With more and more Stormwater Overflows (SWOs) being under scrutiny by the public in the UK, this new sewer could be the first of many to come. 📷 Image credit: Tideway London #water #uk #waterways #riverthames #supersewer #wastewater

Four days in Vancouver celebrating all things digital and infrastructure 👏   I was in town to judge the Year in Infrastructure Going Digital Awards. Here's a short highlights video.   A shout out to fellow judges Christine Ow and Alejandro Maceira Rozados and also the Bentley Systems water team for the invite Neda Simeonova Sandra DiMatteo Cecília Correia Richard J. Vestner.   Kudos to the Sabesp team in Brazil for winning the water award for its impressive 'Project Integra 4.0' vision. A great example of executing a digital strategy and vision and seeing the results.    Lots of conversations and thoughts to piece together regarding the convergence between AI, digital and building climate-resilient infrastructure.   Enjoyed meeting and catching up with Robert Mankowski, James P. Cooper, PE 💧, Paul Murphy, Andrea DuMont, PE + many others.   And a final shout out and thanks to colleague and friend Alexis Morgan for hosting and guiding a mountain hike before my flight home. Breathtaking climb (quite literally) and views. Although slightly humbling being overtaken by 70-year-old local guys with sticks 😅. The Canadians are a hardy bunch!    I’m resolute about remaining a stubborn optimist when it comes to solving mega environmental challenges. We have the tools, and digital advancements are happening more quickly than ever before.   Lots to do. But for now, some rest to recalibrate from what seems to be perpetual jet lag after multiple trips in short succession.   Onwards.    #YII2024 #water #digital #infrastructure #AI #climatechange

Have you heard about PFAS? 🧪💧 These 'forever chemicals' are infiltrating our water sources, posing a serious environmental threat to our waterways and even our health. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are synthetic substances found in everyday products like: 🧯 firefighting foam ☔ rainjackets 🍳 non-stick cookware 💅 and make up. Nicknamed 'forever chemicals' because they are so difficult to destroy, once released into the environment, they stick around for a very long time, contaminating our water sources. The combination of recent USEPA regulations, legal actions, and growing public awareness is driving innovation to address this crisis. We love working with Aquatech to support them with building out their content stream. We're looking to add to the PFAS information hub, so if anyone has any information about emerging technology in the space, let us know! #PFAS #foreverchemicals #microplastics #waterpollution

Thanks waterloop for chatting! 💧 It's great to celebrate the wins, but also so important to talk about the failures along the way, too. As Tom mentioned, we don't mean in water where public safety is concerned, but with technology, investing, entrepreneurship and beyond.

💧H2O INTRO🤝Meet Tom Freyberg of Atlantean Media As founder of a creative media agency, Tom believes impactful content and events are key. One of the most engaging sessions he has organized is Fuckup Nights, a unique opportunity to discuss, learn from, and even celebrate failures. The model was successfully adapted for the water sector, which rarely has open conversations about where things go wrong.

Citizen science just got a high-tech upgrade! 🧪 A new project in the UK is using the power of AI and citizen-collected photos to monitor river health and pollution. WRc Group (Water Research Centre) teamed up with rainfall data modelling company RainPlusPlus Ltd and National Taiwan University to train AI models to spot visual markers of river health using thousands of photographs taken by the Friends of Bradford's Becks community group. Here's the gist: 📸 Everyday people take pictures of their local rivers. ⚙️ These photos are used to train an AI model to identify signs of pollution. ❗ The AI can then analyse future photos and flag potential issues. This approach has the potential to change the game for river monitoring by: 💰 Boosting affordability: citizen science crowdsourcing can significantly reduce monitoring costs. 💥 Scaling up coverage: community participation allows for wider geographical coverage of rivers. 💪Empowering communities: People become active participants in protecting their local waterways. The project so far has been successful, and researchers are continuously improving the AI model's accuracy. Full story by Aquatech here: https://lnkd.in/dHChCyF5 Could putting scientific participation in the hands of local communities help the UK riverway's health get back on track? Time will tell! #citizenscience #AI #water #pollution #rivers
