What a Year 2024 Has Been! 🌍✨ This year has been an incredible journey of growth, impact, and meaningful connections. A heartfelt thank you to our extraordinary BE Design - Sustainable Placemaking team, our valued clients, and all our amazing collaborators who made 2024 a remarkable year of achievement and progress. We have further expanded our teams in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Highways Engineering, ESG and Sustainability, Ecology and Biodiversity services. We travelled across continents, meeting both new and existing clients and attending amazing conferences for UKREiiF SIOR Global The Commercial Property Network EXPO REAL (Messe München) MIPIM in Leeds, London, Berlin, California, Munich, Frankfurt, Cannes, Paris and more. We prioritised community impact and made a meaningful difference by volunteering at an orphanage in Morocco, reinforcing our commitment to social responsibility. Our collective efforts have transformed challenges into opportunities, and we're proud of the incredible projects we've accomplished globally together. As part of our last BE Design - Sustainable Placemaking Family Lunch of the year, the team has come together to share and celebrate this year’s advancements and innovations which support our project delivery. The Team have once again conquered technical challenges, fostered collaboration, developed new solutions, and harnessed their creativity and innovative thinking. Without doubt, the most important outcomes have been in demonstrating where those advancements have brought about greater efficiencies, and how new solutions have also further expanded our core service offerings too. Progress and improvements aren’t solely about cutting-edge technology, the expertise and experience of our team members is crucial to our success. Our Engineering team cemented this, by demonstrating how an innovative change in approach to areas of their design can yield benefits in terms of material use, embodied carbon and cost. Benefits that are not only realised by us as a team, but also have a positive impact for our clients and the whole life impact of our designs. A massive shoutout goes to everyone once again! Great event organised by Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) at the House of Lords this afternoon. Thank you for inviting me to attend the Planning for Zero Carbon Homes Parliamentary Reception. The government is reforming the planning system to significantly boost housing delivery. But to achieve this within our national carbon budgets, barriers to the delivery of highly energy efficient homes must be removed and a credible pathway for all new homes to be zero carbon is urgently needed. ⚡️⚡️Did you know that AI search tools use up to 17x times more energy comparing to a standard Google search?💻⚡️⚡️ One of my favourite sessions so far “The electrification of everything” at the #SIORFall24 SIOR Global conference moderated by Geoffrey Kasselman, SIOR, LEED AP . Power availability and moving away from fossil fuels is a very hot topic for all developments, all countries, all continents; even America! Kim Snyder from Prologis highlighted that self-generation of electricity, micro-grids and battery storage is the first step to power resilience. Carbon emission reduction, regulations compliance and attracting the best tenants are all good reasons to electrification. Yes the initial investment will be higher but the long term returns are worth considering. Finally, Jay Todisco, AIA, LEED AP focused on the education required to offer to our clients when it comes to power availability , power requirements and site selection. As Geoffrey Kasselman, SIOR, LEED AP summarised : “Ask the right questions, partner with experts and hire the diverse people”. #esg #sustainability #electrification #carbonreduction

The tipping point came in 2012 when 50% of Americans had a smartphone in their pockets. Michael Smerconish with The Mingle Project is on a mission to restore civility and compromise to our public discourse. We heard at the SIOR Global opening ceremony that he sees the current climate as part of a much larger disconnect in society fueled by technology and self-sorting, having a serious impact on the mental health of our youth. By facilitating engaging discussions, The Mingle Project seeks to promote empathy and collaboration within communities, encouraging individuals to listen and learn from one another.
