As an official nominator, we are thrilled to support the The Earthshot Prize 2024. Some of the most innovative, creative, and positive minds in climate solutions have gathered in Cape Town for the final– and there’s so much to be inspired by! Across five days of landmark events, Earthshot Week will celebrate the groundbreaking work of fifteen global environmental solutions. The University of Edinburgh's Old College Capital will be supporting Earthshot finalist MiAlgae. Nominated in the Revive Our Oceans category, MiAlgae is working to end reliance on wild-caught fish as a primary source of Omega-3 using their patented fermentation process to grow Omega-3-rich algae. We can’t wait to hear from major thinkers and leaders from across the world and feel optimistic about the protection and restoration of our planet! #EarthshotCapeTown

We're pleased to highlight MiAlgae's remarkable work as a finalist in the Revive Our Oceans Earthshot Prize category. 🌱🐟 MiAlgae is working to end reliance on wild-caught fish as a primary source of Omega-3 using their patented fermentation process to grow Omega-3-rich algae. This sustainable alternative takes its nutrient source from waste water from Scottish distilleries. Congratulations to the MiAlgae team! 🙌 Read more below. ⬇️ Edinburgh Innovations
MiAlgae is solving two environmental problems with one green solution. By turning wastewater into feed for farmed fish, MiAlgae is not only recycling millions of litres of water – it’s also saving millions of wild fish from being caught. The algae feed, produced using wastewater from the whisky industry, is a sustainable alternative to using wild fish as fishmeal – and it's packed full of Omega-3. In just 6 months, MiAlgae has saved 2.4 million fish and 300 Olympic-sized swimming pools of wastewater – and it expects to production to grow tenfold this year.
