We’re wrapping up the call for topic suggestions for our next Task & Finish Group within the Net Zero Service. This is the final opportunity for BEAMA members to propose the Net Zero and Circularity challenges that we should tackle. Previous groups, like the Product Carbon Initiative, made significant progress – what’s next? Examples of great Task & Finish Group topics include market education on supply chain sustainability, creating guidance on applying for green finance, engaging with the upstream supply chain, or developing a CSRD template. Each group is committed to delivering concrete outcomes within a 6–12-month timeframe. Don’t miss your chance to have a say, we’ll be finalising the group topic with a poll at the end of September. UK energy secretary Ed Miliband has promised to “take on the blockers, the delayers, the obstructionists” to building clean energy infrastructure as part of a “clean energy sprint”. Miliband reaffirmed his commitment to develop a clean power system for the UK by 2030 when speaking at the Energy UK conference on Tuesday in London. However, the UK trade association for manufacturers and providers of energy infrastructure, BEAMA, says that a "detailed road map" on how to meet the target is still needed from the government. The Secretary of State's speech highlighted precisely the challenge BEAMA's #AcceleratingElectrification campaign seeks to address - 'uncertainty is the enemy of investment' - and the UK's net zero supply chain feels this acutely. While the supply chain was mentioned five times in the speech, the Government and Mission Control can understand the difference between 'action and inaction' by bringing Ministerial Leadership to the already established, Electrical Supply Chain Council. Long-term policy sets the scene but a 'clean energy sprint' is only achievable with a near-term roadmap that establishes targets for the wires and transformers to upgrade grid infrastructure, heat pumps and other electrified heat solutions and EV chargepoints. #AcceleratingElectrification is essential for driving industrial development today and resolving the energy trilemma. To achieve Clean Power by 2030 and meet our interim Carbon Budgets, it is critical that policy sets positive market conditions to improve demand and investment in both the electricity networks and building electrification sectors. As well as a cost-effective, secure and low carbon energy system, investment in our electrical products sector to increase capacity can also achieve significant economic benefits. Our new Market Pulse data series will keep us all accountable by tracking progress on key indicators. Get involved with our new campaign if you want to see growth in the electrical products sector. BEAMA'S CEO Yselkla Farmer, tonight attended ChargeUK's reception in Westminster. Future Roads Minister Lilian Greenwood comments on the Government’s decision to reinstate the 2030 target on the ban for internal combustion engines. We have asked for this and gives our market the certainty needed on the future demand. The minister continues to outline 'This Government will back the EV industry all the way not just to grow, but to thrive.’ BEAMA are looking forward to our working partnership with ChargeUK to really deliver on these promises and speed up the rate of deployment for EV infrastructure. Great to see the return of the Net Zero APPG yesterday, an excellent forum for discussions between parliamentarians and industry. Alex Sobel chaired a fascinating conversation on the key issues policy makers need to address to deliver a zero-carbon economy. In particular, the relevance given to creating jobs and upskilling the UK workforce comes at a critical time as current skills shortages in the supply chain risk impeding the deployment of products needed for #AcceleratingElectrification Our sector currently employs 90,000 skilled workers and is projected to generate 400,000 new jobs by 2050, but only if government continues to provide policy and regulatory consistency that will enable long-term investment. BEAMA and our members look forward to future meetings of this important APPG #BEAMA #NetZero #Sustainability #Parliament

The UK charging infrastructure market is maturing, with more senior finance and debt entering the capital mix. However access to technical knowledge, and simplifying lengthy investment processes remains a common barrier. As we approach the 2035 deadline, there is still an increasing urgency to upskill investors to accelerate the pace of capital being deployed into charging infrastructure.
