🎉 As the first West Midlands Creativity Week comes to end, we are delighted to announce the WMCA is backing ambitious plans for our region to become the home of the UK’s first National Centre for Musical Theatre. 🤝 Partnering with Arts Council England, Birmingham Hippodrome, Birmingham City Council and Birmingham City University, we will create a business case for a world-leading facility for the creation of new musicals in the UK. 🗣️ Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, said: “We need to unleash and nurture the enormous talent we have in the West Midlands by providing the training opportunities local people need to land jobs in our growing creative sector.” He added: “Having a musical centre located here will help support that ambition.” 🚀 The ambitious project was announced by the Mayor and Jon Gilchrist, chief executive at Birmingham Hippodrome, at the first West Midlands Combined Authority Culture and Creative Ecologies Symposium. 👥 More than 100 people from the arts, culture and creative industry gathered at the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley, during West Midlands Creativity Week to hear from expert speakers, share best practice and plan for the future. The Mayor of the West Midlands set out his vision for the culture and creative industries, while @Jon Gilchrist, chief executive of the Birmingham Hippodrome, and Andrew Lovett OBE Director & Chief Executive at the Black Country Living Museum, were among the speakers. #WMCreativityweek #WMCA #ShapetheFuture
