The EDM Awards nominations are here, and once again, the lack of diversity is impossible to ignore, especially in the Vocal Artist categories. Some of the biggest records in electronic music featured POC artists, yet they are often completely overlooked. What does that say about the industry as a whole? Artists like Kareen Lomax, Daecolm, Jazzy, Malachii, and Sofia Nzau all had their voices on nominated tracks but didn’t get a nomination themselves. Black artists have been shaping electronic music from the very start, but time and time again, their contributions are pushed aside. This needs to change! Drop the names of artists who deserve their flowers and let’s give them the recognition the industry won’t

The end of Form 696 wasn’t the end of discrimination in live music. Black and Asian-led events still face cancellations, overpolicing, and licensing barriers. The system hasn’t changed, now, we need the proof to demand action. UK Music’s Tom Kiehl backs the REMEL survey, calling for more evidence to break these barriers. Your voice matters. BLIM stands alongside our friends, colleagues, and many others who have signed this letter calling for action from the government to save music education. Share this post with your followers tag @keirstarmer and write to your local MP in support of music. The full letter is on the @edsheeranfnd website. We are at a critical point: a future with no music in state schools, no music teachers to teach, broken instruments, and no grassroots venues. As a platform dedicated to supporting the arts, we believe that all young people deserve the opportunity to learn and grow through music. Unfortunately, after decades of defunding and de-prioritising, music is no longer a right for all children, it’s become a luxury for only a few. Music is vital to the UK economy, mental health, communities, and the dreams of young people. Talent is everywhere across the UK, but not all young people have the same opportunities, and that must change.

Think licensing decisions don’t affect you? Think again. Every denied event means: - Fewer places for artists to perform - More barriers for promoters and venues - Less culture in our city 🔗 Licensing isn’t neutral: it’s shaping the future of live music. Help us change it → 🔗 blim.org.uk/change

Licensing teams and local councils all have a say in whether an event goes ahead But why do their decisions seem to hit the same kinds of events over and over again? We’re collecting the proof to challenge this Speak up → 🔗 in bio or blim.org.uk/change
