🚨 PSA: women are napping in toilet cubicles during work hours due to intense pelvic pain and fatigue. The stories pouring through our Women’s Health in the Workplace survey confirm our fears: that when it comes to menstrual and reproductive health, women aren’t getting the support they need. Want to help us gather the data and stories that will help us make the case for policy-level change? Here are 3 things you can do today:   1️⃣  If you haven't already, please fill out the survey (link in comments 👇🏾) 2️⃣  Share it with 3-4 friends and colleagues 3️⃣ If you're involved in a women's group, please distribute the survey within the community Let's build momentum and create equitable workplaces where women can thrive; every contribution counts!

Does the following story anger you as much as it did me? Submitted in our Women in the Workplace Survey: “I had a miscarriage needing hospital treatment, and took 4 days off. This led to a performance review as I’d taken 5 days off in one year. My manager knew about the miscarriage but still raised it. I was speechless…what can you say to that?” Here’s another: “My male boss is kind and accommodating but actively asks me NOT to tell him what’s going on as he ‘doesn't feel comfortable’ discussing it. I had to explain to him what menopause was.” …So we have pregnancy loss triggering performance reviews, and leadership perpetuating taboos and refusing to acknowledge someone’s health 😣 24% of women’s absenteeism is due to gynae health. And there’s a high likelihood that a woman in YOUR workplace is going through some version of this, including: 👉🏾Physical and emotional toll of the issue itself 👉🏾Lack of support, including disciplinarys 👉🏾Concern over job security and finances Through Bloomful’s Women in the Workplace Survey we’re collecting data and stories to support employers in building equitable environments. We’ve had 100’s of responses, but need more 🙏🏾 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eKZug4XB If you are a human that cares about other humans, please complete the survey, share this post widely and let’s change things 💪🏾 #womenshealth #entrepreneurship #workplacewellbeing #bloomful

Yesterday, I read a quote that left me slightly enraged. It was submitted through Bloomful’s Workplace Survey: “I've got stage 4 endometriosis, adenomyosis and fibroids. I've had 4 failed rounds of IVF. I was a business analyst, a job I really enjoyed. But last year I hit their sickness absence limit, 6 absences within 12-months. I was summoned into disciplinary meetings. I felt my employer didn't believe my health issues and I felt bullied… They said we've done everything in line with the sickness policy, if you want to leave, just leave…..” JUST LEAVE? This the frightening reality faced by women with gynae health issues. 👉🏾Lack of support 👉🏾Disciplinary meetings 👉🏾Catching up on work when they can 👉🏾Worry, stress and mental health impact 👉🏾Poorer career progression and finances …All this on top of existing pain, discomfort, infertility and medical dismissal. 24% of women’s absenteeism is due to gynae health concerns - whether they tell you it is, or not. Through our Women in the Workplace Survey we’re collecting data and stories to to support workplaces in building gender equitable environments. We’ve had 100’s of responses, but need more! 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eKZug4XB Please take the survey, share this post and let’s change things. #womenshealth #entrepreneurship #workplacewellbeing #startups #bloomful

At Bloomful we’ve been doing a research piece on women’s health in the workplace, and some of the stories have honestly had me shocked. 👉🏾 “I’d be stuck in the toilet for up to half an hour…I’d literally be praying, trying to stem the flow of blood….And you're thinking in your mind, what are they thinking is going on in the toilet” 👉🏾“I did a laparoscopy and my consultant said ‘You need two weeks to rest.’ When I took that back to my employers they said, ‘No, you only need a week’. So I had a week unpaid.” 👉🏾 “There were numerous times I’d lie on the cubicle floor and take a nap…I’d hear colleagues coming in and think is anyone else doing this? Then you just leave and go back to your desk. It's totally hidden from view.” 👉🏾 “I felt like I had to deal with it alone, that I couldn’t speak to them again due to the lack of response and support….if I was going to be taken seriously, I had to not show any weakness.” These quotes don’t scratch the surface: 24% of women’s absenteeism is due to menstrual health concerns. We need to talk more about how common conditions like endometriosis, fibroids and menopause affect women in the workplace. ———— 🙏🏾 Our anonymous survey is live on our website. We need responses: the data helps us lobby for change and better support workplaces: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eKZug4XB - please share widely! 🗣️ DM me to explore how Bloomful can help your organisation navigate women’s health through talks, workshops, data gathering and more. #womenshealth #entrepreneurship #workplacewellbeing #startups #bloomful

The sad story of Jessica Pettway last week was a stark reminder of why Bloomful exists This 36 year old beauty influencer and mum died from a completely preventable disease after being repeatedly dismissed by health providers. She was told her heavy bleeding was due to “fibroids”. When finally examined months later she had stage 3 cervical cancer. The story highlights 4 key problems within women’s healthcare: 👉🏾Knowledge gaps - poor education as well as inability to measure or benchmark symptoms like bleeding and pain 👉🏾Misdiagnoses - despite heavy bleeding and blood transfusions, Jessica was not examined but told her bleeding was due to fibroids. This happens a lot. 👉🏾Dismissal - not listening to women can cause death. And it’s sadly not uncommon 👉🏾Race disparity - Black women are even more likely to be dismissed and receive late diagnoses - therefore are more likely to die A few lessons: 🙋🏻♀️For women → Early detection is critical. Please engage, advocate for yourself and get screened 🧑⚕️For clinicians → Listen and be proactive when it comes to women’s health, especially Black women’s health. 🙌🏾For everyone → Embrace life, it is short At Bloomful we help clinicians deliver better gynae care and enable women to take ownership. I am absolutely honoured to have been awarded Innovation Champion at the Black Tech Achievement Awards, for my work with Bloomful! 🙌🏾🏆 🖤The BTA Awards, sponsored by Salesforce and JPMorgan Chase & Co. were created by Dr. Raphael Sofoluke to recognise the amazing contributions that Black professionals are making to tech. In a world where minoritised groups are often devalued or sidelined, this is really important. 🤍The award ceremony was overflowing with the spirit of inclusivity. I was so inspired by keynotes from Zahra Bahrololoumi CBE Salesforce UK CEO and Gnilane Gueye-Turpin Managing Director at JPMorgan Chase & Co - immensely grateful to you both for sharing your insights and experience. 🖤Also honoured to share the winning stage with other leaders that I hugely admire including Ayesha Ofori, Theo-Lee Houston, Cynthia V Davis CBE, Dr Rashada Harry FRSA - huge congratulations on your wins! And of course, so many worthy finalists Erika, Leke, Sade, Tommie and more. My biggest hope is for us to continue pushing for inclusivity across all aspects of tech - and for future generations to be inspired, see what’s possible, and know that this really is a space for everybody. #tech #technology #entrepreneurship #leadership #startuplife
