Our East Midlands region has donated £500 to Kick Up the Arts, a community arts project based near our Stapleford Heights development. It provides a creative hub for Melton Mowbray locals and organises wellbeing craft workshops for children and families in the area.   Eleanor Lovett from Kick Up the Arts said, "As a community group of artists we're incredibly grateful for the £500 donation from Bloor Homes. This support will help us deliver sessions for young people who face barriers to accessing creative activities in the community. We can't wait to get started and make a positive impact on their creativity and mental wellbeing."   Mike Kelly, Managing Director for the region, said: “Kick Up the Arts is a really important local community group providing creative sessions and therapy to support the mental health of the community of Melton Mowbray. As soon as they approached us, we were very happy to support the valuable work of this organisation. The promotion of wellbeing and mental health is extremely important to us at Bloor Homes, and we aim to set a standard of mindfulness and looking out for others both within the company, through our collaboration with the construction industry’s Lighthouse Charity for example, and in the communities surrounding our developments.”   For more information about Kick Up the Arts, visit https://lnkd.in/evh3KYc2 Read more about our support for The Lighthouse Charity here: https://lnkd.in/gDMFQDEv #communitysupport #mentalhealth #wellbeing

Great to see The Lighthouse Charity in action in our Exeter region. #mentalhealth #makeitvisible

Regional Managing Director at Bloor Homes

During my site visits yesterday it was great to check in with The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity crew as their ‘Make It Visible’ Tour came to Pinhoe, Exeter. This is a construction industry charity working to remove the stigma around mental health and that supports construction workers and their families. They help with financial - emotional - physical wellbeing, whoever you are and wherever you are. They offer practical and confidential support, no judgment! Shockingly, every working day, 2 construction workers will take their own life. That’s two too many. Bloor Homes are proud to be a corporate partner to the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity and help support the great work they do. If you are struggling please reach out to this incredible charity. Thankyou Bish & Jack for visiting us yesterday and providing an inspiring talk to the team. https://lnkd.in/eXYhsff4 #Thelighthouseconstructionindustrycharity #bloorhomes #makeitvisibleonsite #mentalhealth #wellbeing Bloor Homes OLIVER Agency

Guide Dogs for the Blind in Exeter and District has benefitted from more than £500 raised for the charity at the launch of a new 15-acre Country Park as part of the final phase of our Bloor Homes at Pinhoe development. The funds were raised as part of a dog-friendly Family Fun Day, which aimed to raise awareness of the Charity, and let people know about the new Country Park as a new recreation and leisure location for residents and the wider community, including dog walking.   Guide Dogs and Guide Dog puppies were the stars of the event, which held a raffle of pooch-themed prizes donated by local dog friendly-businesses as well as dog care, food, grooming and training specialists. For extra fun the Guide Dogs stand added a Tombola and Guide Dogs merchandise. Prizes were also given to visiting K-nines who impressed the judges, while local icecream van provided refreshments including dog icecreams. All the proceeds will help the charity’s important work restoring freedom and independence to the visually impaired.   Diana Hatchett, Co-ordinator, Exeter and District Fundraising Group for the Charity, said: “We are very grateful to Bloor Homes, Pinhoe for including Guide Dogs in this event and for their very generous donation. Every day 250 more people join the 2 million already living with sight loss in the UK and this number is set to double by 2050. The funds raised by Bloor Homes at this event will support Guide Dogs to help such people. Every penny really does count towards the cost of just under £55,000.00 to support a Guide Dog from birth to retirement.”   Stephanie Ubl, Sales Manager for our Exeter region, said: “It was wonderful to welcome so many dogs and their humans to see the Country Park for the first time. Special thanks goes to our generous prize donors whose support has helped raise such a fantastic amount for Guide Dogs for the Blind in the local area.” Picture: Dog lover Sebastian with four year old Olive showing their support for Guide Dogs for the Blind The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association #GuideDogs #Exeter #Pinhoe #fundraising #Devon #BloorHomes #community

Teams across our regions enjoyed the ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support on Friday, raising funds towards the important work of this fantastic charity. What a great effort by everyone who made and brought in cakes, they all look delicious!   Each year donations from thousands of Coffee Mornings, big and small, help raise vital funds to support the 3 million people in the UK living with cancer, from the moment they are diagnosed, throughout treatment and beyond. What a great cause - well done everyone!   #macmillancoffeemorning

Our South West team boosted the fundraising efforts of Shrivenham Equestrian Centre by donating a 12 month Family Pass for Cotswold Wildlife Park as a raffle prize during the Centre’s Pony Club Camp BBQ this summer. The Centre, close to our Bloor Homes at Shrivenham development, provides horse riding for both the military, veteran and local communities with our coffee mornings, regular lessons, pony mornings for smaller clients and the Pony Club. It also provides Equine Assisted Learning, Recovery and Rehabilitation for serving wounded, injured and sick as well as highly vulnerable and isolated military veterans, via the Armed Forces Equine Charity, focusing on health and wellbeing. Sarah Whittaker at Shrivenham Equestrian Centre, said: “We have been fundraising this year towards the purchase and upkeep of a new horse to join the Centre and the money raised from our raffle will go towards that. The generous donation of the Cotswold Wildlife Park Family Pass from Bloor Homes was the star prize in our Pony Club camp raffle, won by Pony Club member Olivia Lewis.” Shrivenham Equestrian Centre was recently joined by Aim Group RDA – an organisation set up this year by founders who have extensive experience of how horses can empower disabled people. In December, the Centre will also be hosting a veteran rehab course, all of which requires its ‘wonderful equines’ to be all-round, steady team players. Rugby Borough FC Colts Under 12s will be training in style this season following sponsorship of their training jackets by our South Midlands region, close to our new development at The Brambles in Long Lawford, Rugby.   Jack Costello, Sales Director, said: “We are avid supporters of grass roots sports across all our regions and it is a pleasure to support Rugby Borough FC Colts Under 12s with their new kit this season. We think they look really smart in their training jackets and hopefully they will make a difference especially in the winter months. We wish the whole team luck for the coming season and will be watching their progress.”   James Burke, Head Coach at Rugby Borough FC said: “We’d like to thank Bloor Homes for their sponsorship and support. Like all grass roots clubs we are run by volunteers and rely on sponsorship and donations for kit and equipment. It is especially rewarding for the teams when they have new kit and the new training jackets will make a difference when they come to the club to train or play.”   Pictured: Rugby Borough FC U12s with their new training tops / James Burke, Head Coach at Rugby Borough FC Colts Under 12s receiving training tops from Garry Harrison, Contracts Manager for our South Mids region. #grassrootssport #grassrootsfootball #communitysupport #football #rugbyborough

We are proud to announce our support for The Lighthouse Construction Charity, the only charity dedicated to the emotional, physical and financial wellbeing of construction workers and their families.   Hannah Burgess, HR Director said: “The Lighthouse’s mission is very clear. It shows that every day two construction workers in the UK take their own life, while stress, depression and anxiety accounts for 27% of all work-related illness in the industry. The Charity has set out to reduce the number of construction industry suicides and improve workforce in a number of ways.   “As well as its free 24/7 helpline it provides free and accessible key support services for everyone in the industry - and their families – and it addresses the root causes early on, tackling three areas of wellbeing: emotional, physical and financial early on to drive change.”   In addition to a range of initiatives to help people across the industry and their families, The Lighthouse is taking awareness to the frontline of construction through its #makeitvisible campaign, travelling to construction sites around the country to ‘meet the boots on the ground and get them talking'.   Hannah adds: “This aspect of the charity’s work really impressed us as it brings it to everyone working on our sites whether they are directly employed, contracted or subcontracted. It’s an all-encompassing approach. We are looking forward to rolling out a series of dedicated site visits from The Lighthouse in the coming months.”   Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gDMFQDEv   For more information and to access the wide range of support and engagement available to construction workers and their families visit www.lighthouseclub.org/ The Lighthouse Charity #mentalhealth #wellbeing #construction #constructionindustry

This summer our South Midlands region sponsored the North Bucks Bike Ride in support of Medical Detection Dogs and the other focus charities for this year. Alongside the record 350 cyclists who took part, this summer’s event organised and run by the Lion’s Club of Winslow and the Winslow Wheelers Cycle Club raised over £8,000 and gave cyclists the opportunity to tackle different courses ranging from 20km to 100 miles.   The primary fundraising beneficiary is dog training charity Medical Detection Dogs, which has been training dogs to detect disease in humans for the past 10 years. Their ‘qualified’ four legged friends are partnered with people who have a variety of conditions, where they alert them to changes and serious situations in a non-invasive and efficient manner.   Jack Costello, Sales Director for the region said: “When we were approached by the North Bucks Bike Ride to support this year’s event and benefit Medical Detection Dogs who are based just 1.5 miles from our new Winslow Park development, it was a no-brainer. Congratulations to everyone who took part; this was a fantastic event with an unprecedented turnout of 350 people all having fun for local charities. And the sun shone!”   Winslow Park is close by to the popular market town, within easy reach of Milton Keynes and Oxford for commuters, and in the catchment area for good schools, including the Buckinghamshire Grammar Schools.   To find out more visit our web site: bloorhomes.com To find out more about Medical Detection Dogs, visit: https://lnkd.in/d8B8CtiC  To find out more about Winslow Lions Club and the North Bucks Bike Ride, visit: winslowlions.org.uk #medicaldetectiondogs #communitysupport #communityengagement
