Very honored to have been in Germany today alongside Infineon Technologies to officially unveil our latest project: Oxford Ionics and Infineon have won a contract with the Cyberagentur to deliver a fully mobile quantum computer. This quantum computer, which we’re calling ‘MinIon’, will be robust, compact, easily deployed and moved around in the field – without sacrificing its performance. I’m often asked to explain how my background in academia has prepared me to lead Oxford Ionics, and I sometimes joke that I’m actually a ‘reformed physicist’. Since we founded the company, we’ve never approached quantum computing as a science project - it’s an engineering project. We don’t build quantum computers that can only add value on their very best days – when the environmental conditions are perfect, when it’s been built into an extremely specific laboratory, or when the team of quantum physicists operating it are at their sharpest. We’re building quantum computers that are fundamentally robust, scalable, easily deployed and moved around, and add value regardless of the conditions. Achieving this has required incredibly precise and repeatable engineering. That’s why the reformed physicist in me today is excited to share the news that we have won a contract with the Cyberagentur in Germany to deliver a fully mobile quantum computer. This small system, which we’re calling MinIon, will be compact, lightweight, energy-efficient and (most importantly) robust enough to deploy and operate in ever-changing conditions without sacrificing its performance. Our ability to deliver this is a testament to both our unparalleled quantum performance and the superiority of our engineering-led approach. It was fantastic to see the SAF mandate officially passed into law this week, a critical step towards meeting the UK's sustainability goals. Congratulations to all those who have been involved over the years. Alongside the Refuel EU mandates we now have serious SAF targets to hit. Power to Liquid (PtL) SAF will play a crucial role in achieving them, as highlighted in parliament by Greg Smith MP, who referenced OXCCU's contribution to the sector. However, the primary challenge for PtL SAF remains cost. This is what OXCCU TECH LTD is addressing with our unique one-step process. Our OX1 plant is the world’s first demonstration of the direct conversion of CO2 and H2 into deoxygenated long chain hydrocarbons. CO2 and H2 in, liquid fuel out. This low-cost, single-step method makes acheiving these targets possible. Since going live, OX1 has been consistently producing liquid fuel for more than a week and we're now ready to supply our first customers. The results have exceeded expectations, with conversion increasing by over 40% and a significantly higher SAF selectivity than anticipated. We are passionate about developing the world's lowest cost PtL pathway. In May 2023, we committed to delivering OX1, a 1,000 times scale up from the lab, and it’s now operating as planned at Oxford Airport, thanks to the incredible efforts of the OXCCU team. Our next step is OX2 in Saltend, Humber, where we will further scale up this world-leading Oxford University IP, developed in the UK, to further reduce e-fuel costs and help the UK meet its SAF targets. Rapid scale up from demo to commercial scale is possible with this technology and we will demonstrate that. As we continue to innovate, we believe our one-step process and catalyst can deliver substantial cost savings for the whole industry and it is needed as excitement and momentum in the efuels industry continues to grow, as do expectations. The recent $1.1bn funding announcement from Infinium demonstrates this. We at OXCCU will do our bit. 🏆Oxford Ionics and University of Oxford, Department of Physics have set a world record - this time in state preparation and measurement (SPAM)! In a paper posted to arXiv today, our team demonstrates the highest recorded SPAM fidelities of any quantum computing platform on the market at 99.9993%. Experimentally validated at the University of Oxford, this result represents a 13x reduction in SPAM errors compared to the next best approach.
