BEI is delighted to continue supporting the members of Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s SME Advisory Forum to engage with the wider SME community. Join us for our second virtual meeting led by the FCDO SME Advisory Forum members: Charles Duff, Managing Director and Vice President, Alinea International & Sue Griffiths, Managing Director, Social Development Direct. Our aim is both to ensure that members of the Advisory Forum are briefed on the full range of views of the SME supplier community and to enable them to provide feedback on the discussions after their meetings. The FCDO #SMEAdvisoryForum consists of ten members who act an industry consultative body advising FCDO officials on the #InternationalDevelopment agenda as it affects SMEs. Members include the leaders of a range of micro, small and medium-sized businesses across the FCDO supply chain. This initiative is intended to complement rather than duplicate the work of the SME Forum, and in that respect it has the support of our FCDO partners. BEI facilitates quarterly meetings, chaired by the SME Forum members, for all interested SME suppliers (BEI members and non-members equally) at which they can: 1) provide feedback on the previous Forum meeting and any updates received from the FCDO; and 2) solicit ideas for future Forum meeting agenda items and discussion. We are delighted to showcase WRc Group's case study titled ‘Improving Climate-Related Decision Making with Brazil’s Water Regulator' featured in our #WaterResilience Report – Unlocking local and global benefits through collaboration. This report was developed by the British Expertise International Working Group on Water Resilience, with Simon Ayley from WRc Group as a lead author. In 2023, WRc Group was appointed by the UK’s Department for Business and Trade in #Brazil to carry out training for Brazil’s national water and sanitation agency regulator (ANA - Agéncia Nacional de Águas e Saneamento Básico). The UK government wanted to engage and collaborate with the Brazilian government with the aim of providing training to support and develop ANA’s internal #capabilities, build capacity and water sector knowledge, and to help them apply their learnings when making strategic climate change and water resilience mitigation decisions in Brazil.   The involvement of multiple stakeholders, including technical experts and guest speakers from regulators and consumer bodies, was key to the project’s success. WRc Group used key Brazilian contacts to help overcome barriers to learning and contextualise the information to combine their skills with local knowledge. This had an important impact, ensuring WRc provided relevant support where urgent action was, and is, needed. The training has enabled ANA to develop internal capabilities and apply their learnings when making strategic decisions in Brazil based on best international practices for #ESG investment and climate change mitigation practices in the #water and #sanitation sector.
