After an incredible 47 years at Tennent's, our Master Brewer, Keith Lugton, is retiring, and we want to extend a heartfelt thank you for his remarkable contributions over the decades. Keith joined Tennent's in 1977 and has played a pivotal role in brewing over 10 billion pints! His colleagues describe him as someone who is always positive. “No matter what’s happening, Keith’s always the same, happy and brightens your day up”, with one team member adding, "We could all be a little more like Keith." Reflecting on his journey, Keith shared a touching story of how it all started when his wife showed him the job advert in the local newspaper, “I’ve ended up with two of the most fantastic things in the world; my wife, and working for Tennent’s.” Keith has truly been a legend behind the scenes, and has had a remarkable career here at Tennent’s. On September 15th, three of our amazing colleagues will take on the iconic Edinburgh Kiltwalk, raising vital funds for our valued community partner, Big Issue. As part of C&C’s three-year partnership with the Big Issue, we’re proud to support its mission of empowering communities across the UK and Ireland.   The team will be tackling two challenging routes: some will embark on The Big Stroll, an 11-mile journey from Fisherrow Links in Musselburgh to Scottish Gas Murrayfield, while others are preparing for The Mighty Stride, a 20-mile trek starting at Holyrood Park and winding through Edinburgh before finishing at Murrayfield Stadium. During the summer months, Orchard Pig is the perfect pairing with food, and the refreshingly different cider has revealed the nation’s top ‘picky tea’ favourites.   According to new research, the 'picky tea' has become a national favourite, with nine in ten Brits agreeing it’s the ideal evening meal when the weather is warm.   The survey found that Brits enjoy an average of three picky teas a week during summer, with essentials like sausage rolls (52%), cheddar cheese (52%), and pork pies (43%) topping the list.    Cardiffers (96%), Bristolians (94%) and Mancunians (93%) are the nation’s biggest picky tea fans, tucking into the classic British tea at least three times a week.   When it comes to what to wash it down with, a glass of refreshing cider is among the top choices. In fact, almost a quarter (23%) agree that cider is the perfect accompaniment of a picky tea, with women the most likely to pop the top off a cider.    Eleanor Quigley 🍻, Brand Manager at Orchard Pig commented: “It’s clear to see that ‘picky tea fever’ is sweeping the nation, with everything from smoked salmon to sourdough emerging as favourites. We are absolutely thrilled that Bibendum Wine has won the International Wine Challenge Trade Educator of the Year Award!   This award is a huge testament to our amazing Training team and their dedication, constantly pushing boundaries and redefining wine education. Not only are they all Wine & Spirit Education Trust Approved Educators, but they have also developed unique in-house courses designed to help participants excel in selling more wine, spirits, and beer. In 2023 alone, their expertise reached over 2,200 wine professionals across the UK and Ireland through in-person classes, as well as tens of thousands more through e-learning. They have also made waves with the launch of the brand-new Mindful Winemaking e-learning course, empowering professionals with sustainable practices knowledge. After 15 months of commitment and development, we are thrilled that our first cohort of our 'Leading to Win' Apprenticeship has surpassed expectations, achieving distinctions across the board! Our 'Leading to Win' programme is a Level 3 Team Leader/Supervisor apprenticeship from IfATE (Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education) designed to support our colleagues in acquiring the skills and knowledge they need to reach their full potential as leaders. Apprentices from across the UK have been honing their leadership abilities, applying new management techniques across both people and project management, and building invaluable connections within the business along the way. For the fourth year in succession, C&C Group plc has been included in the Financial Times and Statista survey identifying the growing number of European companies who are focused on cutting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Europe’s Climate Leaders 2024 list acknowledges C&C’s efforts in tackling the climate crisis and our positive progress in achieving our science-based emission reduction targets that sees C&C commit to be carbon neutral by 2050 at the latest. The list identifies businesses that have achieved the greatest reduction in their Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions intensity over a five-year period (2017-22). Scope 1 and 2 emissions — 'core emissions' — come from a company’s own operations and from the energy it uses. Emissions intensity is defined as tonnes of emissions of CO₂-equivalent per €1mn of revenue. Other factors are considered, including transparency on Scope 3 emissions, which arise elsewhere in their value chains, and their collaboration with sustainability assessors, such as CDP (C&C have reported our emissions via CDP since 2010) and the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). C&C emission reduction targets were validated by SBTi in January 2023.
