We are deeply concerned about the escalating violence against Rohingya civilians along the Myanmar-Bangladesh border. Thousands are fleeing to overcrowded camps in Cox’s Bazar, where resources are stretched thin. With nearly one million refugees now in Bangladesh, the need for international support has never been more urgent. The international 2024 Joint Response Plan is only 35% funded, leaving a $554 million gap. This shortfall is leading to severe hunger and placing an unfair burden on Bangladesh. I’ve been at Westminster Abbey this evening for the powerful reflection and service to remember this aid workers who have been killed in the course of their duty. So many, of course are local, national staff who serve their communities like CAFOD partners. They or their communities should not be targets.

On #WorldHumanitarianDay, we honour the efforts of all aid workers and condemn the dangers they currently face. 2023 was the deadliest year on record with 280 tragic deaths. Aid workers are #NotATarget and International Humanitarian Law must be upheld so they can work safely. #ActForHumanity
