“You’ve got that great combination of deep science and technology backing a business that can become commercial” The UK’s universities are home to world-class research in science and technology. Their spin-outs are potentially the world-leading businesses of tomorrow tackling global challenges whether related to heath, climate change, food security or the transition to quantum computing. What makes them an attractive asset class for institutional investors? Congratulations to portfolio company Epitopea, who has successfully closed a $31M USD pre-Series A round. The pre-Series A financing brings the total capital raised by Epitopea to over USD $45 million. Alan Rigby, CEO, Epitopea said, “We believe that more durable cancer therapies are needed to transform the lives of cancer patients diagnosed with hard-to-treat solid tumors where overall survival is still poor for most patients. We continue to make significant strides toward the clinic, which has strengthened investor enthusiasm, and resulted in an over-subscribed pre-Series A in support of our forward-looking mission and vision. This additional financing will support strategic pre-clinical discovery in solid tumors of interest while accelerating our near-term clinical development plans for Epitopea’s next generation, tumor selective, off-the-shelf, RNA-based immunotherapies that we believe have the potential to extend the durability of clinical response in patients.” Investissement Québec adMare BioInnovations Jonathan Milner Advent Life Sciences CTI Life Sciences Fund Fonds de solidarité FTQ IRICoR Novateur Ventures Inc. #cancertherapy #innovation

Attending the Innovate Cambridge Summit today where Michelle Lamprecht Cambridge Innovation Capital unveiled Innovate Cambridge's new brand and narrative - an inspiring step toward sharing the Cambridge innovation story on a global scale. Kathryn Chapman, Executive Director at Innovate Cambridge, announced the Innovate Cambridge Clubhouse, thanks to Railpen. This new space will serve as a hub for the local innovation community to collaborate and thrive. We also heard from Diarmuid O'Brien University of Cambridge and Michael Anstey CIC, who introduced the Cambridge Pledge, further uniting key players around a shared vision for the region's future. In a session chaired by Andy Neely, The Labour Party MP Daniel Zeichner emphasized the importance of a wider innovation ecosystem, highlighting the links between Oxford, Cambridge, and London, while mayor Nik Johnson Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority called for stronger collaboration between regional mayors to advance the ambitions of the Oxford to Cambridge Partnership. As we move towards the government Spending Review the summit was a powerful reminder of the strength of the Cambridge innovation community and the exciting opportunities ahead for the region! #InnovateCambridge #CambridgePledge #Collaboration #Innovation #Ecosystem #OxfordCambridgeLondon

Doubling the number of unicorns in Cambridge in a decade is a huge ambition, and yesterday’s Innovate Cambridge Summit indicated this could absolutely become a reality. Innovate Cambridge, Cambridge Enterprise and Cambridge Innovation Capital published a plan to ‘supercharge’ the area’s impact, which means achieving the same level of innovation in the next 10 years as the last 25. Importantly, the plan focuses on maximising social impact too with the Cambridge Pledge set up to share the benefits of inclusive innovation. The new Glasshouse was announced, a community space to convene the ecosystem and host major events, together with a collaborative partnership between Cambridge and Manchester's innovation hubs. My personal highlight, from a marketing perspective, was the unveiling of their new narrative, 'Cambridge: Where Innovation Makes History’. The possibilities are endless, and the excitement is huge around this generational opportunity. Looking forward to our future collaborations through the King's Entrepreneurship Lab and Oxford-Cambridge Supercluster Board. Congratulations and kudos to all involved! What makes Cambridge unique? As the 2024 Innovate Cambridge Summit continues, we are excited to unveil a new innovation narrative for the Greater Cambridge region. This narrative aims to globally showcase our ideas, talent, and track record in innovation, representing a shared vision, story, and ambition for our community. Starting with a simple premise: If you know what Cambridge can do and enable, it’s truly remarkable. However, without this knowledge, it can seem amazingly complex. Our goal was clear: to create a consistent, shared message with a timeless design. The result is something that belongs and is used by everyone.
