Our primary foundation subject leads in art had a wonderful meeting this week, a chance to get together and focus on improving their teaching in their subject and learning new art skills. "So brilliant to have the opportunity to do practical art and get a sense of how skills can be developed across a school." "It was great to try out different methods and techniques that we could teach in school. There were ideas I knew I could apply in my teaching practice and pass on to other teachers in the school." "Having the time to engage and do the practical doing to be able to experience the taught technique that would have a great impact on the children." We were excited to welcome over 30 staff from our schools this week, to visit Acland Burghley School for our Rights Respecting Schools launch event. We are encouraging all Camden schools this year to become part of the Rights Respecting Schools programme, supported by resources and advice from UNICEF UK, provided free for all London schools until 2028. The launch event was for all interested schools and provided a mix of inspiration and practical information about how to get started with Rights Respecting, as well as share how Camden Learning and UNICEF plan to support schools with this work this year. Each school sent two ‘champions’ who are interested in leading the school’s rights respecting work. The afternoon of training included completion of UNICEF’s Achieving Bronze Training which gets schools started on the Rights Respecting Schools journey and award. It feels a long time ago (especially with today's weather 🌧) but last week we enjoyed a wonderful sunny evening, welcoming our new Early Career Teachers (ECTs) to our family of schools. It was a chance for all Camden ECTs to meet in an informal setting. All ECTs, mentors and induction tutors were invited and the group heard from the programme leads and our CEO, Stephen Hall. We also heard from experienced teachers and headteachers about what it means to be part of the Camden Learning family of schools, and the opportunities they will get by working here. “It was great to meet all the other ECTs and to be made to feel so welcome into Camden. To see the sunset over London was an extra treat!" Find out more about our local programme: https://lnkd.in/eCTzDqm6

🎬 New Short Film Release! 🎬 We are excited to share a powerful short film created by Fitzrovia Youth in Action, a leading local youth charity here in Camden. This film has been devised and produced by Camden students, addresses the critical issue of school attendance and raises awareness of the challenges students face. Commissioned by Camden Council and Camden Learning, the video underscores the importance of attending school and the significant impact on future opportunities and personal growth. It highlights barriers such as financial issues, special educational needs, and low self-esteem that can prevent regular attendance. “At Haverstock, we know that young people have a unique perspective on the issues they face regarding attendance, and their voices are crucial in finding effective solutions. This video is a testament to their creativity and determination to make a positive change in their community, and we are grateful to Fitzrovia Youth in Action, Camden Learning and the Council for their support in addressing this challenge.” - Katie Metselaar, Head of School at Haverstock School In addition to the film, FYA will be working with schools to deliver workshops and assemblies on this topic. These sessions, led by trained young people, will feature screenings of the film and discussions designed to engage students and encourage them to share their experiences. Students from participating secondary schools have also trained as peer mentors through FYA’s accredited peer mentoring programme, ready to support classmates who may be struggling with attendance issues. “My experience with FYA has been positive. I have always been heard and I feel like everyone has been given a chance to share their thoughts on what affects attendance. I learned how to mentor and understand more reasons people might not be coming in and how to be a more empathetic person. Young people find it easier to relate to someone their own age.” - Ariella, FYA Peer Mentor and Peer Educator Watch the video and join the conversation! 📚✨ https://lnkd.in/eNikJFGV #SchoolAttendance #YouthEmpowerment #CamdenLearning #EducationMatters #StudentVoices
