We want Holborn to be a neighbourhood with healthy, accessible, and safe streets where people choose to walk, wheel, cycle, or take public transport. Through the Holborn Liveable Neighbourhood Project, we’re working to make the area more people-friendly. 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 To shape the plans, we worked with Urban Symbiotics to speak over 1,000 residents, businesses, and visitors through events, pop-ups, focus groups, and an online survey. We also reached out to those who don’t always get a say, including young people, parents, and estate residents. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗱 People welcomed more greenery, better road safety, and pedestrian-friendly spaces. Concerns included traffic displacement, preserving Holborn’s character, and maintaining new public spaces. 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀 We’re refining our plans based on this feedback and working across council teams to address key concerns. A public consultation will follow later this year. We’ll also focus on hearing from groups we engaged less with in the first phase, including teenagers, disabled people, and women. Aya Elgool (right) and Mohamed Aydin, from the Young Guardians project on Regent's Park estate, were invited by the Prime Minister to attend an Iftar (fast-breaking evening meal) at 10 Downing Street on 13 March to celebrate the contribution of young Muslims. The Young Guardians, including Aya and Mohamed, have been working with local residents in the Regent’s Park area to improve community safety and wellbeing in their neighbourhood. The Young Guardians are supported by Camden Council's Detached Youth Team and youth charity Fitzrovia Youth in Action among others.
