Young People creating a better community in Camden, London.

About us

Fitzrovia Youth in Action is Camden’s leading youth action charity. We empower Camden’s young people to create positive change in their community and in their lives. We support local disadvantaged young people in developing projects which address the issues they care about, such as community cohesion, healthy living, conflict, drugs, and alcohol. We also work in partnership with a wide range of local businesses to provide our young people with mentoring and work experience opportunities. We take a youth action approach, ensuring young people are actively involved in each stage of our projects. Participants learn to tackle the problems they face, develop their self-confidence, increase their aspirations, and gain the skills needed to access higher education or employment. Our vision is young people creating a better community. We aim to make Camden a place where young people can fulfill their potential and benefit their community through the power of youth action.

🌟 Fitzrovia Youth in Action Showcase! 🌟 I had the privilege of attending the Fitzrovia Youth in Action Showcase this afternoon and it was such an inspiring experience! An excellent example of empowering young people to be confident changemakers. A huge thanks to all the young people, staff, and volunteers for putting together an event that truly celebrated young people making a difference (& for the great food!). Seeing first-hand the passion and dedication of these young leaders was really energising. Hosted solely by the young people of Fitzrovia Youth in Action, the presentations, performances, and open conversations reminded us all of the power of youth-led initiatives to spark real, lasting change in our communities. I left feeling hopeful and excited for what’s ahead as we continue working together to support youth voices in Camden through place-based social action and integrating creative ways of co-producing services with young people. Here’s to more opportunities to amplify and empower the next generation! 🙌 #YouthActionShowcase #CamdenCommunity #SupportingYoungLeaders #FitzroviaYouthInAction #CommunityImpact #CamdenCouncil

Head of Business Development and Partnerships at Brandon Centre - Here for Young People

Lovely afternoon at Fitzrovia Youth in Action showcase event. We were treated to a delicious Indian meal followed by performances, hearing from their youth ambassadors and seeing impactful videos of their work. It was great to see their impact in action including the partnership working with Brandon Centre on the social prescribing for young people service.

  • Monday Motivation! We had a fantastic time over the weekend at Camden Council Resident Action Day. Our Young Guardians ran a creative interactive station at our pop up stall, all about 'Re-imaginging where we live', where residents could use lego and playdough to build and design areas, or write and draw their thoughts. Our training team also hosted a taster masterclass on youth participation. It was so inspiring hearing from passionate participants on ways they can engage and work with young people more in their settings and leave with an action plan and exciting vision of what they want to do. If you would like to book a bespoke masterclass for your organisation, please get in touch with Abbie, our Peer Mentoring Manager to find out more how we can help - abbie.mitchell@fya.org.uk

  • "It's important that all pupils are supported well for us to attend school...If you are struggling, talk to someone you trust," key messages from 2 of our peer educators in this short animation film they created in collaboration with Camden Learning, supported by London Borough of Camden. Over the past few months, FYA worked with 13 students across 5 secondary schools in Camden to coproduce a short animation film and accompanying session plans to deliver peer led workshops and assemblies to youth groups and for schools, on the subject of school attendance. Students trained as peer mentors to learn how to support their peers who may be struggling with issues that affect them attending school, and as peer educators to facilitate discussions and activities about the topic, including the many benefits of regular attendance and challenges young people may face. We are so proud of the students who worked hard on this campaign and shared their own experiences, great insight, knowledge and ideas to help their peers as well as empathy and compassion for those who may need extra support. 222 young people took part in interactive peer led workshops featuring the film over the summer by 21 peer educators! A huge thanks to all the students, participating schools, London Borough of Camden and Camden Learning. We look forward to supporting the peer educators and mentors to take their film and workshops into assemblies this term! You can watch the short film here: https://lnkd.in/e9hyg7xn To find out more about our peer support and peer education programmes, email: peermentoring@fya.org.uk #Camden #YouthAction #PeerEducation #PeerMentoring #PeerSupport

🎬 New Short Film Release! 🎬 We are excited to share a powerful short film created by Fitzrovia Youth in Action, a leading local youth charity here in Camden. This film has been devised and produced by Camden students, addresses the critical issue of school attendance and raises awareness of the challenges students face. Commissioned by Camden Council and Camden Learning, the video underscores the importance of attending school and the significant impact on future opportunities and personal growth. It highlights barriers such as financial issues, special educational needs, and low self-esteem that can prevent regular attendance.  “At Haverstock, we know that young people have a unique perspective on the issues they face regarding attendance, and their voices are crucial in finding effective solutions. This video is a testament to their creativity and determination to make a positive change in their community, and we are grateful to Fitzrovia Youth in Action, Camden Learning and the Council for their support in addressing this challenge.” - Katie Metselaar, Head of School at Haverstock School In addition to the film, FYA will be working with schools to deliver workshops and assemblies on this topic. These sessions, led by trained young people, will feature screenings of the film and discussions designed to engage students and encourage them to share their experiences. Students from participating secondary schools have also trained as peer mentors through FYA’s accredited peer mentoring programme, ready to support classmates who may be struggling with attendance issues. “My experience with FYA has been positive. I have always been heard and I feel like everyone has been given a chance to share their thoughts on what affects attendance. I learned how to mentor and understand more reasons people might not be coming in and how to be a more empathetic person. Young people find it easier to relate to someone their own age.” - Ariella, FYA Peer Mentor and Peer Educator Watch the video and join the conversation! 📚✨ https://lnkd.in/eNikJFGV #SchoolAttendance #YouthEmpowerment #CamdenLearning #EducationMatters #StudentVoices
