We’re the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) and we’re taking a stand against suicide.
About us
The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is leading a movement against suicide, the single biggest killer of men aged under 45 in the UK. Free, confidential helpline 0800585858 & webchat open 5pm-12am daily. What we do... Frontline services Anyone can hit crisis point. We run a free and confidential helpline and webchat – 7 hours a day, 7 days a week for anyone who needs to talk about life’s problems. We support those bereaved by suicide, through the Support After Suicide Partnership (SASP). Communities Together we’ll help our boys, our dads, our mums, brothers, sisters, friends and colleagues. We spread our message and facilitate supportive spaces in workplaces, universities, pubs, clubs and prisons across the country – so that people feel empowered to share their experiences and get the help they need before they reach the point of crisis. Campaigns Everyone has a part to play. We campaign with media partners, brands and ambassadors to spread awareness of suicide and its devastating impact with campaigns like #Project84, #DontBottleItUp and The Best Man Project. We challenge boring male stereotypes and encourage positive behavioural change and help-seeking behaviour, using cultural touch points like art, music, sport and comedy.

Today, with MONY Group plc and UM London, we’re launching our second Money Talks report. And the research is clear - young people are disproportionately affected by increased living costs, and it’s having a worrying impact on their mental health. In fact, young people are 77% more likely than the total population to have experienced suicidal thoughts due to issues with money or money worries. We need to do more to support young people as they enter into adulthood, especially in this challenging financial climate. This report is a vital step in understanding the pressures facing young people today, and with it we hope more individuals and organisations will be able to identify ways they can support the young people in their lives. Read the full report 👉 https://bit.ly/42btTDP Get our guide to managing money and mental health 👉 https://bit.ly/4ixXJIq Thank you so much to everyone at MoneySuperMarket and UM who helped make this happen - together, united against suicide 💚

Pretty big news 👇 Our pals over at MONY Group plc aren't just ace at saving money - they're pretty great at saving lives too. They've just extended our life-saving partnership for TWO years and cranked up their target to an incredible half a million quid 👏 Over the past three years we’ve helped people navigate the cost of living crisis with our campaign Money Talks, and shared important real life stories to help more people get the support they need. MONY Group has pulled out all the stops to make sure we're here for anyone struggling with life - even trekking across Cambodia to raise cash to support our services. With suicide rates at the highest they've ever been in England, and with financial hardship a key risk factor in suicidal ideation, partnerships like these are more important than ever. Together, with MONY Group, we're united against suicide 💚

Campaign Against Living Miserably reposted this
''Talking about it prevents it. Hearing about hope and survival is also preventative''. It was an absolute privilege to speak with Director of Services at Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), Wendy Robinson on our podcast. This is perhaps the most emotive and powerful episode to date. The conversation centred around suicide, how we can all play a part in preventing suicide - and why this is all the more important when it comes to neurodivergent individuals. Recent research shows that ADH'D'er adults are 5 times more likely than those without to have attempted suicide (14% vs 2.7%). That rises to one in four for women with ADHD. We can no longer afford to fear talking about suicide, because it ''might put ideas in people's heads''. Beautiful backstory: you might recall that I posted about Wendy reaching out via LI, a few months ago. She asked whether I worked at a nursery 22 (ish) years ago. That was it. I melted! ''YES!'' I exclaimed! I was keyperson to her then nine-month old son (who is now studying at university😊). Serendipitous and then some! Please - do tune into episode 8 of our podcast, ‘I'm ADHD! No You're Not' tomorrow at: 🎙️ https://lnkd.in/eBSM6ciD and share far and wide. I'm also going to point you in the direction of Campaign Against Living Miserably's CARE kit (which is also on our website): https://lnkd.in/eu3QyxNY
