We're so grateful to have partnered with Manchester Arndale for this impactful pop-up health screening event during Black History Month. Our CAHN nursing team was proud to provide screenings, distribute blood pressure monitors, and share valuable nutritional resources. Together, we’re committed to supporting the well-being of our community.
At Manchester Arndale, we had the privilege of partnering with the Caribbean & African Health Network (CAHN) to host a pop-up health screening event during Black History Month. The initiative wasn't just about health checks; it was a celebration of community, empowerment and the importance of health literacy. The dedicated nursing team from CAHN conducted numerous health screenings, distributed blood pressure machines and shared nutritional guidebooks. Through engaging conversations and personalised health advice, they aimed to equip attendees with the knowledge and tools they need to prioritise their health and well-being. Our partners at CAHN were pleased to see a strong turnout from individuals of Black ethnicity, a community that often faces heightened risks for conditions such as hypertension and diabetes. Thank you to everyone who participated and made this event a success.

We at CAHN mourn the loss of our founding director, Mr. Miebaka Tolu Fiberesima, a remarkable advocate for justice and race equality. His kindness, strength and passion for community transformation left a profound legacy that we are committed to honouring. Rest in peace, Mr Tolu.
S-REP pays tribute to Mr Miebaka Tolu Fiberesima he was a force of nature, and one of the loudest voice in Stockport’s journey toward race equality. Tolu was an ex Policeman, and a Magistrate, fighting for justice in the families courts. He was a member for the GMP independent advisory group. He was the founder of the African Caribbean Community Association Stockport, Founding Director to Caribbean & African Health Network (CAHN) and was an ex Trustee for Sector 3. Tolu was also the founder of Greater Manchester only black magazine 'the advocate'. His tireless dedication to fighting injustice and advocating for transformation of race inequality ŵas unmeasurable. Tolu challenged the status quo, ensuring that conversations around race, diversity, and inclusion were not only had but were acted upon. He had a quiet persona, but fought with passion and resilience and believed in what he stood for. Tolu consistently pushed the race equality agenda, endeavouring to break barriers for example he was one of the pioneers supporting Black History awareness in Stockport, https://bit.ly/SREPBHM2024 his commitment to building bridges between communities was evident in everything he did. Whether he was speaking out on behalf of the voiceless or working behind the scenes to influence policy and practice, Tolu's presence was felt, and his impact was profound. S-REP will be hold the torch of his legacy, it will live on through some of the initiatives he inspired. Rest in Peace Tolu, your work on earth is done. 🌟 Telling My Narrative & Embracing the Journey: My Experience with the Aspiring Vice Chancellor Development Programme 🌟 I am excited to share my heartfelt experience with the Aspiring Vice Chancellor Development Programme for Black & Asian Heritage Senior Professionals. This leadership development journey, developed in partnership with the Caribbean & African Health Network (CAHN) and The University of Bolton, has been nothing short of transformative after just the first session. https://lnkd.in/eCNUp6Ha A Personal Reflection: When I first learned about this programme, I felt a mix of excitement and apprehension. As someone deeply passionate about advancing diversity in leadership within higher education, the opportunity to engage with fellow Black and Asian heritage professionals was incredibly appealing. I knew that this experience could be pivotal in my career journey. 1. Learning and Growth: The structured curriculum has pushed me to challenge myself in ways I hadn’t anticipated. The master classes at the University of Bolton are not just about acquiring knowledge; they encourage genuine dialogue and reflection between the attending UK Vice Chancellors and my 5 other selected participants. The session feels like a safe space where we can share our stories, struggles, successes, and most importantly our dedicated journey to becoming a Vice Chancellor. This collective learning environment has enriched my understanding of what it takes to lead and innovate. 2. Building Lasting Connections: One of the highlights for me has been the incredible network we’ve formed. Connecting with such a diverse group of aspiring leaders from other UK universities has been a gift. We’ve shared laughs, challenges, and invaluable insights, and I know these relationships will last well beyond the programme. With the support of the University of Leeds Vice Chancellor, the mentoring has been especially impactful, as I’ve had the chance to learn from experienced professionals who genuinely care about our growth on the programme. 3. Gaining Insight: Participating in open discussions has given me fresh perspectives on the complexities we face in our institutions. It’s empowering to see how our unique experiences shape our approach to leadership. I’ve learned to embrace vulnerability, understanding that it’s through our shared experiences that we can drive change.
