The cement industry accounts for 8% of global carbon emissions, with 40% stemming from fuel combustion across 2,300 sites globally. High process temperatures (1,500°C) make coal difficult to replace. But the cost of inaction is rising—An average cement plant may be faced with up to €52 million per year in EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) fines by 2030, amplifying financial pressures. Meanwhile, the climate crisis intensifies, with rising temperatures, greenhouse gas emissions, and record-breaking heat stress making action urgent. CATAGEN’s ClimaHtech BIOHGEN technology generates low carbon biohydrogen from waste biomass, producing twice as much Biohydrogen per unit of electricity and less water compared to electrolysis.
