Therapy, support and information for people with cerebral palsy and their families.

About us

We’re a charity that improves the lives of children and adults with cerebral palsy through specialist therapy, support and information. We’re ambitious for people with cerebral palsy. For over 25 years our therapists have worked alongside people with cerebral palsy, their families and carers, helping them develop practical skills which transform daily life. Founded by a group of determined parents whose children were unable to get the specialised therapy they needed close to home, we’re the only cerebral palsy charity in Scotland. As we’ve grown, the cerebral palsy community continues to be at the heart of everything we do. Our groups reduce isolation, bringing people with cerebral palsy and their families together. Our support service offers a listening ear and advice. We share our knowledge and skills through courses, conferences and working collaboratively. We raise awareness and we campaign for life-long access to knowledgeable, compassionate services and support. Every day in Scotland, people with cerebral palsy are not getting enough support. We need your donations to power our work, so that every person with cerebral palsy can reach their full potential. Please support Cerebral Palsy Scotland today at cerebralpalsyscotland.org.uk.

  • Don't miss out on booking your delegate place at this year's Cerebral Palsy Scotland conference and exhibition, taking place on Wednesday 2 October at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Glasgow.     This conference is for people with #CerebralPalsy, their families, and professionals who support children and adults with cerebral palsy to come together, meet and learn.   As well as a host of informative speaker sessions, there's also an exhibition with 30 organisations that offer support and services to people with cerebral palsy and their families.    Thanks to our event supporter Digby Brown Solicitors, delegate places are free of charge. This year's event has a great line up of thirteen different sessions and topics for you to explore. See the programme for full details of everyone who is presenting. https://lnkd.in/eE9jaXHy

Making sense of mental health - Kirstie Rees, Chartered Psychologist
Along with members of the Cerebral Palsy Scotland therapy team, Kirstie will look at the language of mental health and explore the different factors – both internal and external – which contribute to how we are feeling. Cerebral palsy, Cerebral Visual Impairment (CVI) and CVI-SIM - Dr Andrew Blaikie, University of St. Andrews
Research has found 60-70% of children with cerebral palsy also have a condition affecting how their brain interprets their visual surroundings called cerebral visual impairment (CVI). CVI, when unknown or poorly supported, affects learning, friendships, relationships and creates anxiety. Dr Blaikie, a consultant ophthalmologist, will explain the connection between the two conditions, how to identify CVI in children and adults, and what to do, involving mostly simple cost-free changes. Includes a groundbreaking simulation video.

The workshop will look at what person-centred planning is, why it is important and when to do it. We will also look at different methods of person-centred planning and what this involves. The session will be fully interactive and take participants through the person-centred planning journey.

  • Yesterday in the House of Lords, our CEO Stephanie Fraser spoke on the impact of the Covid pandemic on people with #CerebralPalsy and their families. Baroness Fraser was responding to the recent report and recommendations published by Baroness Hallett who is chairing the UK Covid Inquiry, and highlighted: ➡ During lockdowns, the decision to stop services that were vital to people with cerebral palsy, including therapy, had huge physical and mental health consequences. These consequences are still being felt today ➡ Not being able to access education during lockdowns was detrimental to children with cerebral palsy, and on their parent carers ➡ There was no coherent approach to shielding for people with cerebral palsy, and the lack of data on the cerebral palsy population compounded this Baroness Fraser said it was critical for data on people with cerebral palsy to be improved if we’re to better respond to future pandemics. She also called for greater involvement for people with cerebral palsy in future decision making.
